A Little Slow Stitching

It’s  always nice to sit outside in the sunshine to do a little slow stitching.  It’s Autumn here in my part of the world and we are still getting nice days, as long as that pesky wind doesn’t get up.  Mind you, mornings and evenings are not too warm at all.  So any chance of an hour or two outside on the patio is always gratefully accepted.

Gemma joined me too, making herself quite comfy on a freshly washed and dried quilt – I had it outside over the back of the wooden seat to get an extra airing before putting it away.  How nice to give me a quilt to lay on, she is no doubt thinking.

After quite some time of not touching this project, I’m pleased that I’ve finally finished quilting the final block on my New Zealand Botanical quilt.  This block represents a native fuchsia.

What to do in the border, I wondered?  Originally I had planned quilting around each flower motif, but didn’t like the effect when I started on one or two.  So that stitching was removed and I’ve now decided on wavy lines – doesn’t look too bad, I think.

I’m so pleased this project is out of the bag and getting some work done on it.  Once the borders are quilted, I’m almost done!

That is the perfect border for your botanical blocks! And your kitty looks so comfy. There's nothing better than a nap on (or under) a quilt.

Your New Zealand Botanical quilt is such a pretty quilt, Jenny. I love the quilting within each block and the wavy quilting around the border is perfect. We too have been enjoying sunny autumn days, but like you, the mornings and evenings are getting very chilly. Have a great week.

I agree about the border quilting! Most times simplicity is best! What a pretty quilt this will be!

I had fuchsia in my wedding bouquet many years ago. What a pretty block. I really like how you decided to quilt the borders. I love the way Gemma is happily sleeping on that quilt. She is adorable. I hope you continue having some warm days when you can stitch outside.

This project is one I love to see, Jenny. The combination of your native flowers and embroidery is so special. Guess what? I got to stitch on my veranda yesterday for the first time since last fall. It was so nice.

So pretty and nice to see you hand quilting after all that hand embroidery. We are finally getting some summer like temperatures. First hot day and I got sunburned, so staying out of the sun for a bit!

Sitting in the sun is a welcome respite, and stitching in the sunshine is heavenly. I’m glad you were able to do both. Rainy and dreary here today, but I have many things inside to keep me busy.

Your embroidery and hand quilting are exquisite! I love fuschias, too. Good choice on the wavy border lines; they add just enough interest without making the print too busy.

i like the wavy lines, and Gemma knows a good spot. We have had heavy rain all night, and still continuing this morning.

I love what you did in the borders! I need to get my daisy quilt organized to hand quilt with big stitches as you are doing. It’s been waiting far too long. Gemma curls up on quilts for photos just like my Bella!

So beautiful! I love the cross hatching in the blocks and the wavy lines in the border.
Sometimes a quilt just doesn't like our original idea and demands something different!

Nice quilt. Hand stitching is nice, but I don't do much of it anymore.
