My blue RSC colourpoint cat decided it really wanted to be purple instead – after all, there were already two blue cats in the cattery. There really are purple cats in the cat world, you know, breeders call them “Lilac”.

This new addition was warmly welcomed into our home by the resident cat, Gemma, who is a Seal Point Birman. Wonder what she thinks of all these other cats of many colours?

As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, I’m a great pinner when I’m stitching. But while stitching this block, I knocked the pins all over the floor! What a butter fingers – I was down on my knees picking them all up. Has this ever happened to you?

Do you have a shop called " The Toolshed" down there? They have an extendable wand with a magnet at the end, no doubt for mechanics to pick up bolts, etc. but mine is the handiest gadget ever.I think mine was $10, and so well worth it. It can pick up bobbins, scissors as well, and saves that scrabbling on your knees. Even Gemma would approve.

Oh yes have knocked pins down a few times so find a magnet helps pick them up....

I love your cat blocks and I think Gemma does as well! Oh my yes I have knocked my pins on the floor and it is never fun to have to pick them all up!
I’ve dumped my pins a few times, too. A magnet helps keep them corralled and picked up easily.

Yes, I've spilled pins. I keep most in pincushions now. But when I do spill I pick up with my scissors which are magnetized. I usually spill out a few of my safety pins I use to pin baste quilts and find those when I step on them. Ouch!
Love your photo of Gemma inspecting the cat blocks! I'm sure she approves. The lilac cat is just great! Oh yes, I have knocked pins over many times, as well as searched the floor for a lost needle. The tool that Nancy recommended with a magnet on the end sounds like it would come in really handy!

Like all stitcher I've knocked my pins over but like a few others I also use a magnetic wand. I've been following your blog with interest over the last few weeks, really enjoyed your travels and loved that teddy stitching. I don't know how you manage to fit so much work in especially as it is all so beautiful. Take care, keep safe.

Beautiful purple Kitty. I have done that many times but now I have a magnetic one and its great for picking up the odd one that ends up on the floor...just run the base over the area and it picks it up xx

Love the block! As for the pins, Jenny if you put them in a tin with a magnet, even a wee one, the whole tin becomes a magnet and they don't do that. And you can close the lid on it so they are safe from curious noses and paws too!
I love all the cat blocks, but that lilac one is delicious! Ooh, the pins, yes. (And I also regularly pop needles off my hand quilting thread.) We have a big refrigerator magnet that comes in handy. I live in fear that my husband will be the one to step on any wayward ones. I’m also afraid of grandkids finding them (although we aren’t doing the grandkids visiting thing now).
Cute purple cat is a nice addition. Pieced by hand, machine or maybe foundation paper piecing? Gemma is gorgeous. Yes, spilled pins at my house which is why I now have magnetic pin holders. Plus I have a magnetic wand for possible strays.

Yes, often on the floor picking up pins until I invested in the magnetic holders. Still drop the pins but at least they are easy to pick up.
