Another RSC top done, using some of the flag blocks I misplaced and then found again. This joins two other RSC tops I made from four patch blocks, which I had completed a month or so ago. So that’s three RSC tops ready and waiting to be quilted! I found this picture on the internet somewhere or other, and decided it was a pretty way to assemble some of my flag blocks, in pink, pale blue, yellow and purple. I substituted plain squares for the corner flag blocks, and framed each block.
The blocks were assembled, and I finished it off with a dark blue floral border. Then got some scrappy pink binding ready. Guess the next step is to layer, pin, and then get on with the machine quilting.
RSC top – done
Today is our 39th anniversary, so we decided to go out for breakfast/brunch at The George, and invited our friends Dot and Derek to join us. We were keeping it low key while Robin is still in “recovery mode”.
We all chose the Big Breakfast special, followed by coffee. It was a nice morning, plenty to chat about of course.
The only problem was, once again, the young waitress didn’t manage to take a photo for us. Yes, she went click, click, but there were no photos showing up, perhaps she didn't press the button hard enough. Or more likely, is more used to using her phone. Never mind, we got a couple of photos ourselves.
Happy Anniversary to us
Next year will be the Big One, our 40th. I’ll have to put my thinking cap on and make sure we celebrate it in style. Maybe we will go away somewhere, maybe we will have a bigger family celebration complete with a cake, who knows? And for those readers who checked the date of this post, yes, we did get married on Guy Fawkes night, all those years ago!
Every 5 November in Britain (and the Commonwealth countries) on Guy Fawkes Day, the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 is remembered, when Guy Fawkes and fellow Catholic conspirators attempted to blow up Parliament and assassinate James I of England. Guy Fawkes was given the job to keep watch over the barrels of gunpowder and to light the fuse. On the morning of 5th November, soldiers discovered Guy hidden in the cellar and arrested him. The trail of gunpowder at his feet would never be lit. He and his group suffered traitor’s deaths. In celebration of his survival, King James ordered that the people of England should have a great bonfire on the night on 5th November. And so it continues……..but here in New Zealand there are calls to ban fireworks altogether. We will have to wait and see how this progresses.

Happy Anniversary - we had our 50th in June. A breakfast with friends is a good way to celebrate - we never did get in a celebration - Mike had gotten sick plans were canceled and we never made new ones.
Congratulations on 39 years of marriage. The most important part of any anniversary is that you are together. What a lovely way to celebrate! The flag blocks look great in that layout. What a fun way to put them together.
Happy anniversary to you and Robin! Congratulations on your continued togetherness, which is no small feat in this day and age. Though you two are still newlyweds compared to us. :-) (Like Karen, it was 50 years in August.) I'm shaking my head about the wait staff again being unable to take a camera photo. Incredible. Still, you got a good picture together. Appreciate the interesting history lesson about Guy Fawkes.
Your RSC flags quilt top is adorable, Jenny. And Happy Anniversary to you and Robin. Thirty-nine years is quite an accomplishment! May you have many more happy years together!
Happy Anniversary! I love your flag blocks quilt! So fun the way you set it with colorful borders.
Happy Anniversary for you and Robin!!! We had our 39th Anniversary on April.
I love your flags quilt top, what a neat block!
Happy Anniversary. Great RSC quilt. You are so creative with all your block ideas.
Happy anniversary! You are probably right about the waitress not knowing how to use the camera. We typically try to get someone our own age to take a photo. LOL. Funny story about our Niagra Falls trip last summer. There were two young girls busy taking selfies and photos of them with the falls. The made the mistake of asking my husband (because he's tall and could get a good view) to take a photo of them. Well, my husband is not the one to ask if modern technology is involved. I watched him... I couldn't help but to laugh when he realized he was pushing the wrong button on their phones and was taking selfies of himself! I wonder what those girls thought when the found them. I bet they got a laugh.
Love your flag block quilt. The border is perfect for it.
Happy Anniversary (and Birthday)! What a fun couple of weeks you've had. I like what you did with your RSC blocks. They make sure an airy quilt top.
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary.
Love the way you assembled the flag blocks.
God bless.
Our next year is our 40th anniversary so we share something in common. We are celebrating it at JAMALA WILDLIFE resort. So I hope you celebrate InStyle too.
