RSC Sewing - Girly Flags

A while ago I rediscovered a bag full of little Flag blocks I had been stitching away for Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  And this week I had a plan for some of them.

While browsing the internet a while ago, I came across this design, which looked rather pretty, and easy enough to do.  So I went through my pile of blocks and chose a selection of pale blue, yellow, pink and purple to work with.  Those colours would make a pretty little baby quilt, I decided.

I’ve ben working away on the four blocks, then decided to frame each one.  These blocks are quite big, about 18 inches square.

Four big blocks – done

That’s as far as I’ve got, but I’ll be adding sashing and borders, fabric still to be decided.  I’m pleased with what I’ve achieved – hopefully I’ll get the top finished during the coming week, all going well.

I’ve also been working on this green baby quilt as my leader and ender sewing.  All these green/lemon coloured squares were donated from my neighbour Dorothy’s stash when she left to go into a rest home. I have so much fabric from her, I’ll be using it for years!  The sashing strips are all stitched, pinned, and ready to go. Don't know about you, but I often work on a couple of projects at the same time.

I often have more than two projects going on at any one time…. I’m working on getting some of them to the finish line! Love your blocks that you made with the flag units.

if you put the four 18" blocks together with a border it will be big enough for a baby quilt won't it - or make two more big blocks?

Do those big blocks have a name? They are so cute and will make an adorable baby quilt for a young lass. I'll be watching to see your leader and ender project come to a finish. Looks like a good one.

Very pretty . . . I love quilts with white background and old fashioned prints.

Ha, ha. What a funny statement, "Don't know about you, but I often work on a couple projects at a time." Honestly, do you know ANY quilters who don't have a couple projects going? I've only known ONE in my lifetime, and she was a distant relative who bought a quilt book and felt obligated to make every quilt in the book, one at a time. I really like the blocks you call "flag blocks." I'm not familiar with the name, but I've seen the block before. You pieced a very pretty color combo, and of course they'll make into a lovely charity quilt. As for the green blocks, yay you! Great to be using up your friend's fabrics, and a green and white quilt is pretty too.

I love those blocks you've figured out with your little flag squares, Jenny - great idea! How big are your original neutral squares - 5 inches? I might need to try something like that. Fun photo with the ones you've made all hanging together, too!
