My slow hand work this week has been working on socks, plus a little hand stitching on an apron. Socks first – I’m knitting away on two pair of fine 4ply socks for my granddaughters. They were so thrilled with the pair they each received last Christmas that they were more than happy with another pair. After all, they said, they had never had a hand knitted pair of socks before! How could I refuse? This time, they checked out the internet with me and chose their own wool. Emma chose the pink and green yarn, and Megan chose the variegated purple.
Socks for the grand-daughters
The weather is certainly cooling down here and I’ve taken to wearing my heavier 12ply socks here at home. I sent a snap chat to daughter Nicky showing off a nice cozy pair which I had completed last year but only just worn. Mentioned that these heavier socks are so nice and warm and so much quicker to knit. Please, she asked, can you knit me a pair for my birthday? Well, of course I will, and she wanted the colour to be a surprise. I think she would prefer darker or more muted shades, so I’ll have to go shopping.
Cozy toes for winter
I’ve started another stitchery project recently so I’m slowly working on that. This one is on the bib of an apron for me to use in our caravan, so has a camping theme. Must get on with this, it’ nice simple stitching (what I do, nothing fancy) and as I’m using Perle No 5 thread it stitches up quite quickly. This is a Stitchers Revolution design.

12 ply socks would be cosy and warm and rather comfy. You are indeed the knitting of socks queen, Jenny. =) I think the knitting of socks would be the unravelling of me. The new embroidery of the cute vintage van is lovely. The perfect design for an apron as you tour around in your van.
I have a lot of perle cotton that I inherited from an aunt. Your post made me think of using it on the next bib that I embroider. Oh, I have to go look at the colors that I have. I love those socks. I can imagine that the 12 ply is quite warm and comfy. Enjoy your knitting and stitching!
Your socks looks to be cozy. How I wish I had a pair of these socks to warm my feet.
Cute camp embroidery for your apron. Happy stitching, Jenny.
you may make socks differently than what I normally see but I think you make them faster than what I see others do! and they must fit and keep feet warm that they ask you for more :)
Those socks do look super cosy. Actually I've never heard of 12 ply wool. I wonder what it equates to in the UK? I will have to google it!
Yummy socks in progress! I love the Stitcher's Revolution patterns!
You make the best socks Jenny! Lovely embroidery too!
Both the GDs socks are looking great and your blue 12ply pair look cosy.
That will be a lovely camping apron.
Love the socks! I’m glad your granddaughters and daughter requested them. Enjoy your knitting time this week.
The socks are looking wonderful , Jenny. I bet the will be quite cozy for the toes on those cool Autumn days. I adore your camper apron. What a great idea. Have a very lovely week.
Love the colors of the socks for your granddaughters, and your 12 ply socks are lovely. I love the camping theme for your apron bib and I love to do simply stitching too.
Those socks are coming along nicely.
You'll be glad of yours now that winter really is here.
Your toes look warm and toasty in those socks! Sounds like you and your knitting needles will be busy for awhile! Gail at the cozy quilter
Oh, I can't wait to see you modeling your apron when its done. I'm an apron wearer, I know many people that don't, but they must not be as messy as I am, LOL.
Nothing is better than warm hand knitted socks in the winter and those are such a pretty colour. I love the variegated purple socks you are working on.
Such a cute stitchery project for the apron bib.
God bless.
It's a real talent you have, being able to knit socks. And it's even better that you're getting sock requests! Your granddaughters have chosen some pretty colors. As for that apron... ooo, that's gonna be so cute! You make me itch to do some embroidery myself. But I've taken on too much handwork lately - multiple projects in the works - but I certainly love it. I can see you do too!
I love seeing all the different socks. Such great colours. Love the caravan too.
