A little bit of time here and there all adds up, and I’ve been working away on my second native bird stitchery while on our caravan holiday. This one is a tui, a nectar feeder who loves to sip on the yellow kowhai blossoms in Spring. Although not finished yet, the stitchery is coming along nicely.

We arrived home safely from our two weeks away - and I’ll share a few more holiday snaps with you. We came home along a different route for a change, and driving down a steep hill, we caught our first glimpse of Lake Taupo. Although it looks lovely and peaceful now, Lake Taupo was actually formed by a huge volcanic eruption – read all about it here.

I love mountains, and managed to snap a picture of Mount Ngauruhoe as we drove along the Desert Road. The beautiful cone shape tells of it’s volcanic beginnings.

Our last night away in the caravan was spent on a farm – and I got to see some pretty little (motherless) pet lambs. So cute – but very demanding, and they came in bleating loudly to see if their next meal was ready. One of the little lambs decided to check out one of the farm dog’s kennels, and looked so sweet with it’s little head poking out.

I know of the tui as an answer in my cross word puzzles sometimes. What beautiful sights you and Robin get to feast your eyes on! And lovely quilt shops to visit along the way.
When I was much younger and living on the farm, we had bum (orphan) lambs that were fed with the excess cow's milk. They were insistent little critters. The photo of the lamb in the dog house is priceless.
The volcano cone mountains in your area are beautiful. Most of the mountains in my area were created by earthquakes too many years ago to count. I can begin to imagine the power that it took to push them out of the ground.

Still some snow lingering at the top, cold southerly here today, and I hope all the lambs are big enough to cope with that cold. Taupo is always stunning, calm, rough, in winter and summer. looks like you had another wonderful trip away.
The lambs are so sweet. I recently saw a video of New Zealand and must admit that I didn't expect it to be so mountainous - gorgeous landscape you have. Lake Taupo is awesome.

Hi all, many thanks for your comments. We are so lucky to be living in such a beautiful country, and to be able to travel around with our caravan.
The two NZ bird stitcheries will eventually be displayed in the caravan - our "home away from home".
