Pink and Blue Nine Patches

It’s been a busy old week with several social outings to attend, but I’ve managed to do some work on my two little nine patch cot quilts.  These little blocks had been hanging about for ages and I stitched the rows together a while ago as leader and ender sewing.  I can’t even remember why I made all these little nine patches, but it must have seemed a good idea at the time.

An hour or so sitting at the picnic table outside on a sunny day and they were all pinned up, and ready to go.  And while I was thinking about it, I prepared the bindings too.

All pinned up and the bindings prepared

I admit I’m sometimes a bit slow with quilting ideas, but after reading about it for sometime on other blogs, I’ve just discovered that my machine will do a type of Serpentine stitch.  Mind you, it's not called that in the manual, so I didn’t even know I had this stitch variation.  Doesn’t it look pretty?

My hope is to get the blue quilt finished by Friday.  My quilt club has a casual sewing day organized for Saturday so that will be ideal for me to take them along and get the bindings hand stitched down.  I don’t usually bother unhooking my sewing machine from the cabinet and lugging it down to the hall on  these sewing days, and much prefer to take along some hand stitching.

That is a great stitch for any quilt, my wavy lines do not seem to be even, and this is the one way to make sure they do. Love the layouts for your blocks.

The quilts are adorable hanging together on the clothesline. Serpentine stitch works wonderfully on the blocks.

both quilts are lovely and will be beautiful gifts Jenny...
That's a great stitch on the machine for quilting. Is you machine a Bernina 440 QE ????
What is the stitch setting please???
Yes it is much easier to do hand sewing then have to take the big machine... I bought a small Janome Gem to take out sewing....

They have turned out beautifully. The quilting looks great. I don't think my Janome has a stitch quite like that. I'll have to have a play. Hand stitching binding is the perfect job for a get together. No machine to lug and you don't have to concentrate too much, so you can do lots of chatting.

Two very lovely quilts. The serpentine stitch is a good idea and works well for the cross hatch style quilting. We'll be seeing these completed soon.

Just caught up Jenny, on your posts. You and Robin look so summery and happy out and about on the tour. Very interesting critters there. How nice to see another version of your very own hanging like that. Yes, to discovering what kind of fancy stitches are on your machine. I'm just learning about mine and a couple of them work so well for quilting lines...I'm happy to have learned.
