A Weekend in the Country

We have come back from a weekend away in the caravan, and had a lovely time in the country.  With  sheep on one side and cattle on the other, there were country sounds going on all around us.  It was our Christmas rally, and what a feast we had, with our hosts supplying a rolled loin of hogget cooked to perfection on the rotisserie.  Everyone else contributed to the meal, with veggies, salads, and desserts galore.

As usual, I packed my stitching bag in the caravan, but with so much going on, I only did a tiny bit.  Never mind, every little bit helps.

Our hosts for the weekend have the most beautiful garden, but our tiny one is doing well too.  “Precious Pet”. the rose given to us when our beloved Birman cat Muffy passed away, is flowering like crazy.

And we are pleased to find that our passion-fruit vine is producing another crop of these luscious fruit, although it will be some time till they are ready to eat.

We have tomatoe plants growing, butter beans, peas and silver beet in our small raised garden.  Our rhubarb always grows well and cook up a pot regularly – we like to eat it cold with cereal for breakfast.

Hope everyone is coping with the pre-Christmas rush.  We are having a relaxed Christmas Lunch at home then taking off in our caravan for a couple of weeks.  That’s the advantage of celebrating Christmas “down under” in New Zealand during the summer season.

Muffy's rose is lovely, and what a fabulous place for your rally. Hope it was warm, we have a cold wind here, almost a gale at times.

WhAt a great way to celebrate with your caravanning buddies. Your garden sounds very productive. We've had no succes with passion fruit, ours just flowered the once, never set fruit and then suckered through the garden for years. We now just go to the fruit shop.

Good for you Jenny and Robin. Sounds like a wonderful holiday travelling around in your very comfy caravan. Loved the photos of growing things and how lucky to grow passion fruit; they cost us a fortune here. Our world is white now but the evergreens do look kind of spectacular with snowy boughs. In this part of the world, we would think it looks Christmasy. Happy Travels, you two.

It sounds like a lovely get together. I know, from my own experience, that it's so tempting to stay gone for a while! Right now, I'd love to have a small trailer and just take off for several months - find someplace warm. Too bad I can't get to NZ in a trailer! LOL

Sounds like a lovely weekend - and your Christmas plans sound perfect! We just planted some passionfgruit this year - and they look a LONG way off producing anything! Your bowling outing looks like a great night - a fun outing I find, as long as one doesn't take oneself too seriously!!!

I've never seen passionfruit growing before. I love the butter they make with it, yum!
