A Week of it

After having a fun weekend away last week, sadly I’ve been feeling a bit miserable this week.  Presumably picking up a bug which has left me with a raging sore throat, coughing and sneezing the week away, with thumping headaches too.  So I’ve been self medicating with these two, plus Strepsils for my throat and Panadol for my headaches.  My goodness, sorry to sound such a misery, and luckily after a week it’s starting to ease.  My symptoms seem to clear up during the day, but sadly that nasty cough is just waiting for me to lie down on the pillow and try and get to sleep, then it pops up to say “remember me – I’m still here”

I hosted the Sew Wot ladies on Tuesday and do hope I didn’t pass any bugs on to them to take home.  If I had, I’m so sorry, ladies.  And we had a couple of appointments we couldn’t get out of during the week, had to attend, coughing and spluttering my way through them.  It would have been nice to stay at home, but that’s not always possible.

So there was not too much happening on my ABC Animal Quilt this week.  I’ve managed to complete stitching in the ditch around all the blocks to keep the quilt stable,  so any further machine quilting will have to wait till next time.

I do think that sometimes we quilters are much too hard on ourselves when things don’t go to plan.  We may have hoped to get so much done each day or week on a project, but when that doesn’t happen, why should we beat ourselves up?  All sorts of things can conspire to keep us from our stitching, nice things such as social activities, friends and family, and not so nice such as sickness or emergencies.  Sometimes you just want to sit and relax, read a book, or potter about in the kitchen, and there is nothing wrong with that.  After all, our hobby is meant to be fun, not a nine to five job waiting for us to clock in every day.

In the interests of sharing, I seem to have passed on my sore throat to Robin.  It took a few days, but I guess he couldn’t really escape from the germs.  But I’m looking after him, and cooked up some tasty broccoli and cheese soup for lunch.  With roast lamb for dinner, so that should put me back in the good books.

It’s green, so it must be healthy!

I’m sorry to hear that you both have caught the lurgy and hope it passes before long. I’m surprised you have done any sewing. As you say, a nice steaming bowl of soup always makes you feel better.

sometimes I have to tell myself I do not have to quilt every single evening to get a quilt done and at times I feel guilty if I do not put in the effort - you are right it is ok to not get it all done - this is fun not work!! Hope you are feeling completely better now sounds like you had the flu - we were both so lucky this winter to not even get a cold - a first for hubby - he always gets colds - must be because he is no longer working and exercising more and not around people who have children and were always taking turns getting sick

I hope you can chase that nasty bug right out of the house! Rest, hydrate, and settle in with a good book.

Get well soon, both of you. Tony seems to have avoided my germs so far, hopefully he continues to do so.

Thank you for your kind comments. After a week I'm starting to feel much better during the day, but come evening it all comes back again. Guess lying down in bed trying to get to sleep causes the lurgy to start me coughing again. Sadly, I had to spend several hours last night propped up on my LazyBoy Recliner, trying to sleep sitting up, wrapped up in a quilt, of course. So....bugs and lurgies, begone, I've had enough of you!

Take the time to heal completely. Quilting is like a good friend...it is always there for you when you need it.

I have had the same, for over 2 weeks. That cough flares up at midnight.. and lasts non stop until after 1.30 a.m. Hugh did get me some very expensive cough mixture at Taupo yesterday, when I was at Linda's for the "experience of a lifetime" A Day in the life of a Long Arm Quilter .Linda showed us, some 11 ladies, how to load the quilt, use the Red Snappers, baste the quilt, then do some ruler work. Then each of us " Had a turn". Wow. Back to Rotorua, one dose of what was pure money, and after an hour, had one of the dreaded side effects of one ingredient that was written in very small print. Nuff to say, it was like a laxative of the 100% level. Hope you are on the mend Jenny, if you are anything like I was, no energy, and no enthusiasm to even look at fabric. Robin, hang in there, your cough will no doubt be the "Male variety" and a whole lot worse.

That is my favourite soup!! Look delicious. Sorry to hear you've had a nasty bug and that you've managed to share it with Robin. Looks like you're finding a way to get rid of it, so that is good. Wise words on quilting being fun; I've been wracked with guilt over the past week+ because I didn't get my April challenge for Island Batik done by the end of April...too many things piled up during the month, some major ones. Ah well, it's nearly a finish now!

I love your soup photo...yes it is good for you and tasty too. Sorry you caught a bug Jenny but it's hard to miss sometimes. And yes, coughing often worsens at night which is the worst. I'm curious about what you show in your photo for help to ease your symptoms. What is Irish Moss? Anyway, rest, relax and take care of each other. ( and keeping your body elevated, though uncomfortable,is a good idea too)
