Remember these pretty little heart stitcheries I was working on? They were a free download from Alex Anderson called “12 Days of Redwork”. I took them away to stitch on caravan trips and when I needed hand stitching to take to a group, and finished the last one several months ago. The blocks are coloured with Fabric Mate pens.
12 Days of Redwork blocksAfter sitting neglected in a bag for some time, I pulled them out and laid them on the floor. As most of the stitching had been done while we were away in the caravan, I would complete this quilt for the caravan bed, I decided. The burgundy colour scheme will go nicely with the caravan furnishings. How about some nine patch blocks to use with the stitcheries? So I made these.

Put them all together and…….what do you think of that?Of course, the quilt top is not big enough yet to cover the bed, so the next step will be to add some borders of some type or other. But I’m getting there, one step at a time!

Your stitcheries look really nice, Jenny. I've never colored with Fabric Mate pens, having learned only how to use Derwent Coloursoft pencils. Do you have to do anything to set the pen ink, so your quilt can be washed someday?
I think it would be nice for your quilt to have a narrow border of a plainish tone-on-tone, or solid, and then have nine-patch or a checkerboard all the way around. More work perhaps, but terribly effective.
That's the only word to use Jenny, it really is so pretty - I love the amount of white between the blocks. I look forward to seeing your choice of borders.
