I was really keen to go and see the movie "The Heart of the Beast" and my daughter Nicky said she was interested too. She drove down to Levin, collected me from home, we had time for a quick lunch at the movie complex, with the film starting at 1.00pm. This was the first time I had seen a Brad Pitt movie, but after seeing the shorts on TV, decided I really must go and see it. The story is set in Alaska, but it was filmed in rugged parts of the South Island, New Zealand. And the German Shepherd dogs in the film, Dad and sons, were New Zealand born and bred too, so there is quite a NZ connection.
"After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces Officer James Belmont and his combat dog Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements. From acclaimed film maker David Ayer, Heart of the Beast is an intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet".
I certainly did enjoy this film, as the pair face wild animals, the unforgiving and dangerous terrain, and their own demons.
I always like to have several books waiting for me to read, in fact I get withdrawal symptons when I run out of books. I found a Vera book I hadn't read, they are always interesting, and just like the TV series, always have a twist in the story. I hadn't worked out who the murderer was! And I love anything to do with Tudor times, and have a book here at home by Alison Weir about the Tudor Queens. But is is non fiction, and a bit dry to read. Alison Weir has now written this series of novels about the Tudor Queens, and this one is about Katherine Howard, a young girl who becomes wife number five, whose past comes back to haunt her and sadly didn't last very long at all. Really enjoyable, so now I will have to find the other books in the series at the library.

That movie caught my eye too, but I didn't see it yet.
That movie sounds really good--we will have to watch out for it locally!! I've read all the Vera Series except for the latest one,,,I really do enjoy those books...
I will check out the Tudor Queens series, my daughter loves historical fiction so she may be interested too. thanks for the reviews--I cannot be without a book either--;))) hugs, Julierose
Sounds like a great movie and the books a good read.
How nice to go to a movie! I seldom do that because, really, why won't the projectionist pause the movie so I can go to the bathroom?! Ha, ha. But actually, I've learned that there's an app for that! It's called "Runpee." It tells you when you won't miss much of the movie, running to the bathroom! My goodness. What people think of! Thanks for sharing your book titles. I had forgotten about Ann Cleeve's "Vera Stanhope" series. I sure enjoyed the TV series. I've read two Vera books, but now you have me thinking to listen to others that ARE available in my public library audiobook app, Cloud Library. I can tell I have some good listening ahead.
Thank you so much for the recommendations, Jenny. I have always enjoyed Brad Pitt movies- so interesting it was filmed in New Zealand. The books sound very interesting. Have a blessed day.
the movie sounds good I will probably wait for it to be on Prime or something, sometimes it doesn't take a long time to wait. I have not read the books - none of those queens lasted very long did they, always dying young natural or murdered.
Now I am going to have to see that movie if it actually comes here. Love those Ann Cleeve's novels.
God bless.
I'm planning on seeing it later this week. Nice to hear that you liked it.
Love a trip to the movies and add in a doggie and you've got me. I love Ann Cleeves books...enjoy xx
That is a great connection with the movie. Good to know.
Yes, I can't go without my book fix. Always need a few spares.
