RSC Finish from 2020

I’ve been working off and on over the last wee while machine quilting one of last years RSC projects, made with Checkerboard blocks.  This was a nice easy block to construct, and I enjoyed stitching several blocks each month in the nominated colour.  In between my quilting sessions, Gemma has been helping by holding the WIP down to stop it escaping.  Or maybe it’s just been a cozy place for her to settle down.

With the quilting finally complete (it took me ages as I needed to pace myself) it was time to stitch the binding on.  But where was the binding – I knew I had prepared it earlier and put it away safely.  There it was, in the second place I looked, so I didn’t have to panic too much.  I always like to get the binding prepared ahead of time.    Then I settled down outside enjoying the mild Autumn weather and hand stitched the binding down.

With that job complete I had to get a damp cloth to get all the cat hair off the black borders.  Hair from a Birman cat is extremely fine, and floats around in the air, and it is so noticeable on black fabric.  There, all done, now for a photo.  This quilt will be donated to Foster Hope Charity, and I’m going to ask for it to go to an older boy, or teenager.

Lovely finish on this one Jenny--it takes me quite a while to machine quilt, too.
Wrestling with a big piece is always a challenge;)) hugs, Julierose

Congrats on a beautiful RSC finish, Jenny!! I love the fact that it will be going to comfort a child in crisis. I looks like it will be a super snuggly hug!

What a nice quilt for an older boy. Such pretty colors, but not too feminine. So glad that you had a quilt inspector. A project isn't finished until it has been approved by the pet patrol!

Wow, a finish. It is always fun when one knows the binding is going on. Making the binding ahead of time makes finishing the quilt so much smoother. The REC is helping many of us work on some very interesting ways to use what we have.

Good pattern for a teenage boy. I’m sure it will be well loved. Looks a large quilt, hard to quilt on your DSM I would imagine.

Your Checkerboard blocks have been made into a gorgeous quilt and I’m pleased you have finished it so I could see the way you sewed your blocks together. After seeing them last year for RSC I’m doing them this year... thanks....
Gemma is a great help . 😉

Love the quilt Jenny, a great finish. Gemma is such a great helper to have and she knows how to keep a quilt in its place. I know what you mean about cat fur. Picasso's black furs get everywhere and especially onto light fabrics.

What a super finish, Jenny, and perfect for a boy or young man. I know you couldn’t have done it without Gemma’s “help”. (Wink)

Thank goodness for Gemma! She knows how to keep a quilt held down so it doesn’t fall off the table. Beautiful quilt! It will make someone very happy when they receive it.

Lovely finish, I am sure a teenager will totally love this quilt. It looks so soft and ready to cuddle. I make the binding right after I finish piecing and set it aside before putting on the quilting foot.
