Embellishing Cushions

I recently made my daughter a special quilt for her 60th birthday, pink and green nine patches, as requested.  And with extra blocks, added two cushions as well.

Nicky's 60th birthday quilt

Plus two cushions made with spare blocks

Nicky asked if I had any of the green ric rac left as she wanted to embellish the cushions.  Over the last couple of months she has been busy hand stitching all sorts of bits and pieces to her cushions, and sending me photos of her work.  She has recently met up with a group of stitchers and enjoys going to the get togethers, getting encouragement and ideas.  At last she had finished adding all sorts of bits and pieces, and the results are so pretty

Nicky's embellished cushions

Nicky has certainly done a wonderful job, what a difference it made, turning these rather plain cushions into little works of art.  She told me she  enjoyed the time spent hand stitching each pretty bit of lace, trim and hand embroidery to make these cushions her own.  I am so proud of her, she is so very creative indeed.

Jenny, the quilt you made for Nicky is beautiful. Her embellishments on the cushions are so sweet, some of the laces are the same or very similar to pieces in my stash.

lovely quilt and cushions - doesn't it feel just so strange to say your daughter is 60 now - I know I never think of my girls being 52 & 50(next week) - they seem to have a hard time believing I'm in my 70's -- age seems to come so fast sometimes!!

She has done such a wonderful job. Maybe she should do more crazy patchwork items. She is good at it.

That's such a beautiful quilt, and I love the matching cushions, too. What a fun project for your daughter to embellish them like she has! I think she's taking after her creative mom!
