What's on the Table?

There is a pretty hand embroidered tablecloth gracing the table this time.  Lovely floral embroidery worked on linen.  I collected this pretty cloth from my MILs linen cupboard after she had passed away.  I really didn't want it to end up in an Op shop and wanted to give it a good home.

I'm not sure who worked on this cloth.  As far as I know, Robin's mum Bonnie didn't do needlework.  I suspect it may have been passed down from her own mother, Robin's grandmother.  Bonnie already had some things from her mother, pretty plates and cutlery.  Whoever made it, I'm delighted to give it a new home, and enjoy using it, especially as it seems likely there is a family connection.

So pretty! It deserves to be out on display. I remember my mother having an embroidered table cloth with a hand made lace edge. I’m not sure what happened to it. It was not in the linen cupboard when I cleaned out the house. Enjoy your day!

That is a gorgeous tablecloth. It is so nice to see the hand work made by family. Even nicer that it is being used and not given away or kept on a shelf.

that is a pretty tablecloth so many did that type of embroidery years ago and it is making a bit of a come back.

like you, i treasure old linens ... it just takes a bit of knowing the thoughts that go through my own head when i'm stitching to know that each of those stitches, each of those flowers represent the thoughts of the women who came before us ... with gratitude

It's so pretty! Lovely stitching. This is a good reminders to all of us makers... label our work! Wouldn't you love to know for sure who made it? And when? Even if it's a small piece, a first initial/last name, and a year will be worthwhile to future generations. Thanks for sharing, Jenny!

It’s a lovely embroidered piece. I have some of those also. Not always sure if their origins, but know they are from family. So I keep them.

Love older linens like these. I was gifted one my a dear friend that used similar colours but much different pattern. Good rescue.

Beautiful tablecloth. My mom had some given to her for her wedding. ( Which are now in a stack in my house. Some were never used. Funny how we treasure the workmanship and unfortunately it lives in a box. I have been thinking of you lately for the change of seasons and how you are doing. Sending hugs.
