My pink socks have been a long drawn out project. I received this lovely skein of sock wool from my daughter for Christmas 2023.
Christmas gift from Nicky
I didn't cast these on till mid way through the year and the socks traveled with us down to the South Island in August when we went to celebrate my son Michaels's 60th birthday. The trip across Cook Strait takes three hours so after something to eat in the cafe there is always time for a little knitting.
Knitting onboard the ferry
As I always seem to have more than one knitting project on the go, these socks were neglected for a while. Then my daughter purchased some sock yarn in the Op Shop, asked for a copy of my pattern, and within a couple of weeks she had knitted her first pair of socks! That really spurred me on to finish my own.
I was soon up to the toes, that didn't take long, then sewing up the side seams. Several have asked if the side seams make the socks uncomfortable to wear. They run along the side/top of the foot and up the side of the leg, not under the sole, and I don't have any discomfort at all. The weather is still nice and summery here, so I will tuck them away in my sock drawer to wear a little later.
Finally finished, that took a while
And just so you know, I've two pair of triple knit socks, my blue jumper, a baby's jumper, and a kitten blanket for the SPCA, all cast on and waiting their turns. Plus all the quilting projects as well. No wonder I have trouble completing things, there is too much on the go!
I was at a meeting last week and one of the ladies had brought along several bags of frozen blackberries to give away. I gratefully took one, and made some blackberry crumble. It was delicious, and I froze a couple of portions for later.

Mmmmm blackberry crumble, my favourite. Unfortunately, in our house crumble always disappears very quickly so no hope of freezing some for another day.
Happy knitting. Love the idea of the socks with a seam. Yummy crumble
Lovely socks you've finished from that beautiful wool!!
I've made apple crumble, (which disappears mysteriously fast!!) but haven't tried a berry one; blackberries are hard to find around here...I don't know why...after seeing your crumble I'll have to make us one --haha hugs, Julierose
Mouth watering crumble there! I wish you were handy so you could show me how to cast on for socks, Jenny.
Great finish of pretty Pink Socks. I’d think a side seam would be better than under the sole.
Your crumble looks delicious
when I make deserts I need to freeze portions too - so we won't eat it all in one day!! blackberry crumble is good too that is what I made with my blackberries last year
Jenny, we both need to take a trip to see Jocelyn, casting on for you, and meeting them both for me.Just wish it wasn't such a long flight. Your crumble is so good to have a piece or two ready for the next tasting. We had blackberries on our other property, the vines were thornless!!!
Blackberry crumble sounds delightful. I cannot wait until our blackberries are ripe. Gorgeous socks. Knitting is a great "on the go" project . Have a lovely day, Jenny.
Yummy looking crumble. Those socks look comfy.
Your pink socks are lovely, though I sure understand about having (too) many projects on the go. But having options gives us the enjoyment of working on what we want, right? That blackberry crumble looks delicious. You're smart to freeze some. I do the same with chocolate chip cookies, pulling only ONE out of the freezer, and then waiting impatiently for it to thaw enough to eat. It's all about pacing ourselves, isn't it?
Nothing wrong with having several projects in the works. Variety is a good thing! Love the socks ❤️
those pink socks are AWESOME!!!
Yes please, to some BlackBerry Crumble. =) Those knitting fingers of yours, Jenny, will be clickety clacking forever. You certainly have a lot of woolly pretties on the go. The variegated shades in the skein of wool is quite lovely.
Lovely socks. The blackberry crumble looks very appetizing. Good idea to freeze some.
God bless.
Love those knitted socks and the Blackberry crumble looks so good.
your dessert looks delicious! Another pretty pair of socks! You are so talented!
What beautiful hand knit socks!!!! It's been a few years since I've knit socks but I do love wearing the hand knit type! Fun to see a photo of the ferry, also--quite the big ship!!!
I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one that has projects that get put on hold and take forever to finish. I can see how you daughter was such an inspirations after her two socks :) That Blackberry Crumble looks amazing. I have a freezer full of blackberries and would love your recipe, if you have time to print it out. I'm sure others would love to have it too.
Love the pink socks. 🩷 My mom use to knit socks for my dad all the time. I am hopeless at knitting. So glad to see you are keeping busy. Have a great day. ☺️🩷
Your socks look cosy and the crumble looks yummy
I have always loved the socks you make. Great colours. And you get such beautiful wool in NZ.
I have tried to find your flat sock knitting pattern but to no avail. But I will keep hunting.
The blackberry crumble looks delicious. I try to keep some berries in the freezer, they come in so handy.
Your latest socks are so pretty. They will be toasty warm during winter. Fruit crumbles are delicious. Your blackberry version would be delicious. Nice to have some more frozen too.
