It's about time I worked on my purple clam shell quilt again, goodness knows when I last got it out of the bag. This project came with me to a monthly craft group I recently joined. We can take anything we like to work on, there was knitting and crochet happening, needle felting and one lady was setting up a hand loom, that looked rather tricky to me. After doing big stitch hand quilting around all the clam shells, I'm now up to the borders. I won't tell you just how old this project is, but believe me, it's elderly!
Hand quilting the borders
It's about time I got on with my pink sock knitting too. The sock yarn was a gift from my daughter Nicky back in Christmas 2024, and it is lovely wool indeed. Not too far to go on these, I'm up to the foot, not too far to the toe shaping. As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I knit my socks flat, two at a time, then sew a seam up the side. None of those tricky little double pointed needles for me. I pleased to say my daughter Nicky is knitting her very first pair of socks, using my pattern. She hasn't knitted for years, and is doing really well. I wouldn't be surprised if she completed her socks before me.
My pink socks are coming along well

Such pretty clamshells! Nice to see that you are working on it to get it finished. I’m curious about the socks. Do you feel the seam when you are wearing them? Good to knit both socks at the same time to make them exactly the same size.
So good to be working on a very old UFO.
The socks are growing nicely.
Those purple clams are lovely. Lovely colour yarn for the socks. How fabulous your granddaughter is knitting again. You will be able to swap hints.
Thank you for showing us the process of your sock making. I can't wait to see what is stitched on the clam shell quilt border.
How cool is it that your daughter is now knitting. What length of needle do you use for your socks. I love seeing your socks grow. And good progress with your hand quilting too.
That border is going to look so pretty with your hand quilting pattern, Jenny...
my hands are in need of a rest after all my slow stitching the past 2 weeks--so some time away from that for a bit!!:(((
The socks are really pretty--lovely color yarn. Do you weave your side seams? I thinkthe idea of making both at the same time is so clever;)))
Hugs for a good week Julierose -- P.S. 4+" of snow overnight...
The age of a project doesn't matter a whit! Fabrics still look new, you're getting pleasure from hand-quilting, and that will be a finished quilt, eventually. Though, it always fascinates me to know "how long" it takes to make a quilt. That's the number one question a non-quilter always, always, always asks: "How long did it take you to make that?" Though the question gets old, and there's always a lot of fast calculating going on in my head, trying to guess at how much time I put into a quilt (I sure don't care!), I get a kick out of saying, "Oh... I started this quilt in June 2019, and finished it in January 2025." Makes me smile to think of the look on their face! Pretty socks too, Jenny, no matter your methodology for making them. Good work!
I too wonder if you feel the seam when wearing? That is nice that you found another craft group to join - it is good to find more people to be around now. I have thought of you often and wonder how you are doing in your new circumstances of life.
Lovely clamshells. Love your socks too!
i was/have been wondering the same thing, having given up on ever being able to work with tiny double-pointed needles with my no-longer-nimble fingers ... pink - love pink socks!!!
I love the fabrics in that clamshell quilt. I hope you don't put it aside again. It is so pretty. Those socks are great also.
Glad to see you joined a craft group. And working on an old project must feel good. Love the pink socks!
Pretty socks! I’m glad you found an additional group to craft with and to enjoy company and conversation.
There is nothing nicer to wear than hand knit socks. The pink is a beautiful yarn.

Such a pretty pink toned yarn for those socks. I knit my socks flat as well, but my pattern is so very different. I hate those small double points, whereas Mom could whiz around those no problem at all.
God bless.
I am so impressed with both of these projects. Your clam shell quilt is going to be so pretty and I love all the purple printed fabric that you're using. I haven't knitted in a long time and I've never made socks. I didn't even realize that you made both socks at the same time. Therefore; I've always wondered how you get them both to be exactly the same. Now I see if you're making them both at the same time they will turn out the same. I wish you were here to teach me how to do it:)
Good luck with your hand stitching. It is always good to rediscover special projects.
The socks are looking great.
