A new year, and some more stitching for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I've been taking part in this for several years, and the idea is to use your scraps "one colour at a time". As I have more RSC UFOs than I care to admit to, which have built up over the years, I've decided to limit my block sets severely this year. That way, I hope I can also get some of those previous block sets finished - that's the plan anyway. Pink is the chosen colour for January.
So what have I stitched so far this month? You may remember that in 2024 I started making hollow nines in an effort to use up some of my 2.5in squares I had accumulated. I probably have enough for a small cot quilt now, but there are still plenty of those squares left in the bag to be used up. And...... they are not my favourite thing to work with. So what I'm making this year are some framed four patches, in a final effort to deal with those pesky squares. Nice and simple.
Framed four patches
I also have a bunch of framed four patches I stitched up last year, but these used slightly larger 3inch blocks, and are yet to be made into a quilt top. So you can appreciate my problem, RSC blocks may well be quick and simple to stitch, but they do seem to hang around for a while!
I've got an idea for another simple RSC block as well, this one for a boy. I do like to ensure that I do stitch boys donation quilts too. After all, there always seems to be plenty of floral blocks suitable for girls on the go, and it hardly seems fair that the boys should miss out. Hopefully this will get stitched shortly.

You are not alone. I also have RSC blocks from previous years that have not been made into quilts. Meanwhile, those pesky scraps continue to accumulate!
So happy to see you are back to doing some sewing, Jenny; I stopped doing RSC because it produced way too many blocks for me to deal with, myself.
But I follow everyone's choices and sometimes will join in for a month if I am using that colorway...Right now I am trying to deal with my some 32+ UFO's---3 at a time..!! ;((( Take care--we are having snow flurries this morning--very
pretty...hugs, Julierose
I have a lot of RSC blocks that I started for various quilts two years ago and then never finished. I need to look at them later this year and figure out what to finish
I hope that you are able to turn some of those block collections into finished quilts this year. I have the same goal. Starting new blocks always seems to be so much easier than sewing them together, but it is also nice to get quilt tops together and moved out of the stash.
I also have too many block sets going all at once for RSC. But it's surprising how quickly they can add up to enough for a quilt.
I feel your pain with the leftover projects. I managed to finish up last year's projects at the end of the year, but still have some from previous years. I am determined to get at least one WIP/month done in 2025!
Your framed four patches are pretty in pink, Jenny! I have those pesky squares that build up, too, but so many of them are ugly prints. Not nearly as fun to use in blocks as yours are!
It's nice to see you stitching a little again, Jenny. Those pink blocks are pretty.
Love those blocks and now you have given me an idea to use up some of the 2" squares I have cut.
God bless.
I like the idea of the 4 patches with a frame - I may be tempted to add that idea to my RSC list
Those blocks look pretty. Yes, I have at least one years worth of blocks awaiting finishing.
A good start to the year. Something nice and simple.
It seems as though both you and I are in Finishing Mode this year with our previous RSC projects. I love that you moved up to 3” blocks from 2 ½”. Conquering larger pieces and making cute blocks at the same time!
Nice pink RSC blocks.
I have a few RSC blocks too that need to be made into a quilt. They’re on my Chookshed Challenge list.
Hugs.
Pretty pink blocks. It's so easy to get carried away making RSC blocks, without even thinking they have to be turned into quilts too. This RSC year, my goal is to make not more than two different blocks, rather turn some into quilts (last two years block sewing). Good luck with yours!
I love these blocks and want to make some too!
Nice block plan for 2025!!! I have a never ending supply of those 2 1/2" squares!?!
