The nearest drop off point was on the way to where we were heading for lunch, so that worked out well. I collected the bag, and we were ready to go.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEtwgIoWSmeMfKph6MCbsimQ9_BRRx0U_fznbVFRv_UEdJ4zpl4K3x7K2t2gj7j0ry2w084tET8BTpYPgBsVWwFGgP5I2nigCVAqs140ZpxYiDjMXBkOWYoYdEjzbmsdDSgzGV6s950-i-ZPJtpJAGw8Xa44UCew3gYTmTs1b28nxs98dfEQM7c9VbcA4/s4896/P1050783.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEtwgIoWSmeMfKph6MCbsimQ9_BRRx0U_fznbVFRv_UEdJ4zpl4K3x7K2t2gj7j0ry2w084tET8BTpYPgBsVWwFGgP5I2nigCVAqs140ZpxYiDjMXBkOWYoYdEjzbmsdDSgzGV6s950-i-ZPJtpJAGw8Xa44UCew3gYTmTs1b28nxs98dfEQM7c9VbcA4/w300-h400/P1050783.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ready for the donation drop-off</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">So what did I have ready to donate? When I received several boxes of fabric when my neighbour Dorothy was moved into a rest home some time ago, I came across a pile of nine patch blocks she had stitched. These blocks sat around for a while, and I finally assembled them into a quilt top, using white sashing. A length of lilac floral fabric found in the boxes became the borders. And there the top sat, waiting, and waiting. I laid it on our bed to check it out. It doesn't look too bad for a donation quilt, I think.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia3ugQkeRant1gQF8BS4UJGNi2mIF3dVlNOQf4l3N61v6Hl3-ew-mPMbJOn3Q4mPsLzXIq_ga6bSz0N8ZGjKsuWx4_VwN8PZcaYZICMqsBQbK_01Xhyphenhypheng_49xkOiPlXpUCJ2vKTiXGGdwrVUmbiHEB3IwYyW1tbb4l4rRw-j-UkmMRnzgLgYWvX1_B8FPs/s4896/P1050804.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia3ugQkeRant1gQF8BS4UJGNi2mIF3dVlNOQf4l3N61v6Hl3-ew-mPMbJOn3Q4mPsLzXIq_ga6bSz0N8ZGjKsuWx4_VwN8PZcaYZICMqsBQbK_01Xhyphenhypheng_49xkOiPlXpUCJ2vKTiXGGdwrVUmbiHEB3IwYyW1tbb4l4rRw-j-UkmMRnzgLgYWvX1_B8FPs/w640-h480/P1050804.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Dorothy's nine patch blocks</p><p style="text-align: justify;">With the backing fabric and batting ready, I took it outside onto the glass patio table, and pinned it up, ready for quilting. Not sure how much of this I will be able to do this month, as we will be away in our caravan for ten days or so over Easter. But I should be able to make a start on the machine quilting, and hopefully finish it the following month.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">By the time we return home there will be a new RSC colour for the next month, and a new number chosen for the Chookshed Challenge. So I'll be busy sewing again in April.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13596754983215564299noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7591608932391275570.post-11173809218132090412024-03-14T14:22:00.001+13:002024-03-14T14:22:33.881+13:00Mid Month Chookshed Challenge<p style="text-align: justify;"> It's mid March and time to write about my progress on Chookshed Challenge No 4. For number 4 I decided to work on a panel, as are several others taking part in the challenge. I had a couple of panels hiding in a bag, and decided to do something with my horse panel. Which has been sitting there waiting for the horses to be liberated for quite some time.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPt6y9_1lrKGllHwiv8uGFjDM0439p8oBsU20Nl_YLiph2td5p1wFcAVWnguD3705npgeswOjCq6b9ji6-k4Mc_tXfYu4_g_G59DLFnIbXD-m_-BoL4MSJ-KLLKMoHD-r39s27kjNOHflGMvqVvcuu57rKh3X_sF7VTX7RFGF49DBz9aSJaPQxu7Aa2hg/s4896/P1050496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPt6y9_1lrKGllHwiv8uGFjDM0439p8oBsU20Nl_YLiph2td5p1wFcAVWnguD3705npgeswOjCq6b9ji6-k4Mc_tXfYu4_g_G59DLFnIbXD-m_-BoL4MSJ-KLLKMoHD-r39s27kjNOHflGMvqVvcuu57rKh3X_sF7VTX7RFGF49DBz9aSJaPQxu7Aa2hg/w640-h480/P1050496.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">Opening the panel up, I remembered that it had four large horse panels, plus two more strips showing multiple horses on each side. These smaller strips were cut off and added to the top and bottom. I then added a strip of dark green to the top and bottom to give it a little more length and some cream/brown dotty fabric for the borders. No fancy pieced blocks anywhere, the idea was to keep this project simple, and achievable.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5hHTq-Y-ZI-qC6KQEhrx7RQVQb5npslMcehPgeRIMvFTZQcHy96538baqI8mtKHnsAqSBnRnzXubdjH4jo7PReHRqEKVc_JCHk9-03LrDHEwgtrUyQRgZHyuC_BQZK44Vp5pnMcqSjrBdS2LmbpqRuhM9zqNXwhsTdpR9QY2OT6Eoe9Am7SPrb_95yfM/s4896/P1050761.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5hHTq-Y-ZI-qC6KQEhrx7RQVQb5npslMcehPgeRIMvFTZQcHy96538baqI8mtKHnsAqSBnRnzXubdjH4jo7PReHRqEKVc_JCHk9-03LrDHEwgtrUyQRgZHyuC_BQZK44Vp5pnMcqSjrBdS2LmbpqRuhM9zqNXwhsTdpR9QY2OT6Eoe9Am7SPrb_95yfM/w300-h400/P1050761.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj1kgIcB1M9KVLeZy5QzGS3AR9Giy3pacLQoxxTy0hU3Qa14JJ980Txcerp6siBjnn4Y0Jo_X-WBIBY56PWRtb9b6R_8f3YpvxouLqzCI2qGSh-Tys95qJxTOBAiWNfYqlZSD8Akb-moojCbQs95dI15041OdwREupY_z_iG4Jy5Rtt1j8nRrIsYtAc_k/s4896/P1050763.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj1kgIcB1M9KVLeZy5QzGS3AR9Giy3pacLQoxxTy0hU3Qa14JJ980Txcerp6siBjnn4Y0Jo_X-WBIBY56PWRtb9b6R_8f3YpvxouLqzCI2qGSh-Tys95qJxTOBAiWNfYqlZSD8Akb-moojCbQs95dI15041OdwREupY_z_iG4Jy5Rtt1j8nRrIsYtAc_k/w640-h480/P1050763.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">The top is done</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The next step was to pin the layers together, always a bit of a challenge in my small home with not much clear floor space. I had a slight navigational error as I hadn't been there before - I was in the right street but was confused what number her hose was so had to phone and ask. As it happened, I was parked right outside a block of two flats, so I was almost right. Nest time, I'll know exactly where to go.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Mary welcomed us inside and after we were settled, we were shown the tablecloth she had been working on. This was an Op Shop find, and Mary completed the embroidery and added a border in a pretty floral fabric which picked up all the colours she had been working with.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga2EfjgMy4qJr8aoN8QobQV_N6nl2hOqOqahJY75B4NtvKDc4ue1L9vuGtzAxtV3RTq3NgYAKApCEEKKSbST_7EwrAfJK1THQLkeflr-Mn82NqzG7WIwg9sQJH6L6TGhqu0xBCn8f0EUBnPei44f1minGNSUFaS0YasWSGk59spmM2KxA9Gmwzx0Fw5h0/s4896/P1050772.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga2EfjgMy4qJr8aoN8QobQV_N6nl2hOqOqahJY75B4NtvKDc4ue1L9vuGtzAxtV3RTq3NgYAKApCEEKKSbST_7EwrAfJK1THQLkeflr-Mn82NqzG7WIwg9sQJH6L6TGhqu0xBCn8f0EUBnPei44f1minGNSUFaS0YasWSGk59spmM2KxA9Gmwzx0Fw5h0/w640-h480/P1050772.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Mary's completed tablecloth</p><p style="text-align: justify;">As well, Mary had been knitting up a storm, making several pairs of wooly slipper socks for a friend to wear. So I've been busy sewing some purple for the block sets I've been working on this year. First up are Happy Blocks for a girl. Ths month I found some girls charm squares featuring butterflies and flowers</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioq97XkL99AezigLc0pHvgILW2JDbE9v_ugSEbPFX90dnl3WNXVCnBMf2krwXL_NVDSZ6dKY_n9JDo4P_79eUWy9Mvi2zbCIfA-YiZNAjM2uUTresjh-AkAlUAkMgfiGH7TGMUkJPJxZlqK3TqkpxRKslo2AekQwu_Z4ZeA199Rffr8o_YLY4yUzE8hDA/s4896/P1050756.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioq97XkL99AezigLc0pHvgILW2JDbE9v_ugSEbPFX90dnl3WNXVCnBMf2krwXL_NVDSZ6dKY_n9JDo4P_79eUWy9Mvi2zbCIfA-YiZNAjM2uUTresjh-AkAlUAkMgfiGH7TGMUkJPJxZlqK3TqkpxRKslo2AekQwu_Z4ZeA199Rffr8o_YLY4yUzE8hDA/w640-h480/P1050756.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Happy Blocks in purple</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The bordered four patches were next. I had stitched a whole lot of four patches suitable for a girl a while ago so I'm using these up this year too. I found flowers, mermaids, and another block containing owls, dogs and a spooky looking cat. It's always fun finding toning fabric for the borders in these two block sets.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguc-91pvEJK24W9dRJTbuoUk71KEzg2cV6oDA6t9WbU44rWXjFaQN4ftsJZQKurVMbYGULcNgI_O8SQnOVzJm01qJU6pb767jvvUZs5Xi7vaVRK9tP4y5CjWpROKpG4dfX-kqEEzWnrNLBr_RAUP5v-VsnZQbLnd5tW3GRRmAA_ymdBo-Q3qvXM7B94K4/s4896/P1050757.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguc-91pvEJK24W9dRJTbuoUk71KEzg2cV6oDA6t9WbU44rWXjFaQN4ftsJZQKurVMbYGULcNgI_O8SQnOVzJm01qJU6pb767jvvUZs5Xi7vaVRK9tP4y5CjWpROKpG4dfX-kqEEzWnrNLBr_RAUP5v-VsnZQbLnd5tW3GRRmAA_ymdBo-Q3qvXM7B94K4/w640-h480/P1050757.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Bordered four patches</p><p style="text-align: justify;">One more easy block set to go, and these were the Hollow Nines. I found a bag full of 2.5in squares to use, and I'm determined not to cut any more. In fact, I'm not too keen on using little squares at all, so once I've stitched all the colours for the year, I'll probably donate any left overs to the Op Shop. But at the moment I'm using them up, being thrify and frugal.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwnRdxRsQ4N-sbEOc_IFx3PIJI8s5ah-oQNEFWklyAD3PQsJsRSjw5QOTafu2mHDMvZP8nASafZWY7cmxypHE2Vd2H0Bdwx_kZMQVMC9nxD9EEX1ugkgsqRBlcsAdDgUeBgLhWj-NSacPBQVWQJFCM-rnb0gu8Ch24VqnBw6IPsYd50KTLvauZ_9gKjZE/s4896/P1050753.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwnRdxRsQ4N-sbEOc_IFx3PIJI8s5ah-oQNEFWklyAD3PQsJsRSjw5QOTafu2mHDMvZP8nASafZWY7cmxypHE2Vd2H0Bdwx_kZMQVMC9nxD9EEX1ugkgsqRBlcsAdDgUeBgLhWj-NSacPBQVWQJFCM-rnb0gu8Ch24VqnBw6IPsYd50KTLvauZ_9gKjZE/w640-h480/P1050753.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Three Hollow Nines</p><p style="text-align: justify;">And there has been one extra purple sewing project to finish off the week. I've made two little pouches to hold pens and pencils to donate to Foster Hope, and each little pouch has a packet of gel pens inside, all ready to go. This was recycled from a small table cloth I made for the caravan some time ago, featuring Easter Eggs. I hadn't really used the cloth for some years, so chopped it up to make two little pouches. They needed a buttonhole in each - oh dear, I hadn't stitched button holes for ages. But once I had found the manual, read about buttonholes, found the button hole foot and stitched a sample, I was good to go. It wasn't really so scary after all, so what was I worrying about!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9LrdDjs3Xe-U08KlfIGVQ35QpzxVKUCaRG2iB8WoHDUktGcLc627gKVDJK8Lwy_IS3UITkW5Ydw_mypO9vunHIxtdkF8Uh0N2C5Y93vre6JvwZwHX9b0-IdQ7oqF0zLem8b35t4s40Zt3VQlNRZOZzeTxFkhtPvgDWtUN82cNnXVXZxc01GHbXtTKZE/s4896/P1050765.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9LrdDjs3Xe-U08KlfIGVQ35QpzxVKUCaRG2iB8WoHDUktGcLc627gKVDJK8Lwy_IS3UITkW5Ydw_mypO9vunHIxtdkF8Uh0N2C5Y93vre6JvwZwHX9b0-IdQ7oqF0zLem8b35t4s40Zt3VQlNRZOZzeTxFkhtPvgDWtUN82cNnXVXZxc01GHbXtTKZE/w640-h480/P1050765.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Two purple pouches for donation</p><p style="text-align: justify;">So that's all my purple stitching so far. It is number four, and on my list that is to use a panel. I had a couple of panels tucked away, and decided to work on the horse panel.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2IMHKGN07EHNhiY-E-9EHMWkmF0y5pjTe6TVCc9Y-7T0EsteHTCiNCiXIKrLzlEtiRX39R0DTf05cA1Cg3G38LlHjMPCXM9Wmy6F43wAhyphenhyphendYk4DysN7jsYjGmxL4TBRQMZYj_9ggFcKwfsiR0tuD7LQmJbMb_rT4-AMz4YLDiL4UfL4p6D4DR_o5_l8M/s4896/P1050496.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2IMHKGN07EHNhiY-E-9EHMWkmF0y5pjTe6TVCc9Y-7T0EsteHTCiNCiXIKrLzlEtiRX39R0DTf05cA1Cg3G38LlHjMPCXM9Wmy6F43wAhyphenhyphendYk4DysN7jsYjGmxL4TBRQMZYj_9ggFcKwfsiR0tuD7LQmJbMb_rT4-AMz4YLDiL4UfL4p6D4DR_o5_l8M/w640-h480/P1050496.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">We have just got back from a caravan weekend away, so all I've done so far is to retrieve the bag, check what was inside, and have a think about what I'll be doing and what other fabrics to add. I'm looking forward to starting this project this week. The panel was purchased several years ago to make a quilt for my younger grand-daughter, but I didn't use it and purchased a much bigger panel in the same design. Hopefully I can find a photo of Megan's finished quilt to show you when I get this one completed, for comparison.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">And what did we get up to on our weekend away? We attended the Martinborough Fair, along with a million other people, it seemed. And enjoyed a New Zealand delicacy there, a whitebait fritter served with bread and butter, so delicious. A little pricy, but certainly worth every penny, after all, we don't get to eat this very often.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBnamTkAJ5IWHZWxP7bQloGOYbQQ6i-eEPc7gjUX8VrSZCIJPp5En_3qYr4Mzws56uelJJLhCqB76-LlITBcDJaSsWd3UhaYIPIW78ScEEUwCtPFHnxeCqXcHaNlfW3s7phRnV76P6YAvo82xckQbjP4jFWJT47ZTVyKi5lJmg-c1Vbue1zVx9IXotjjg/s4896/P1050729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBnamTkAJ5IWHZWxP7bQloGOYbQQ6i-eEPc7gjUX8VrSZCIJPp5En_3qYr4Mzws56uelJJLhCqB76-LlITBcDJaSsWd3UhaYIPIW78ScEEUwCtPFHnxeCqXcHaNlfW3s7phRnV76P6YAvo82xckQbjP4jFWJT47ZTVyKi5lJmg-c1Vbue1zVx9IXotjjg/w640-h480/P1050729.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">There is a tasty whitebait fritter hiding under the bread</p><p style="text-align: justify;">We enjoyed a BBQ meal on Saturday night, and a shared dessert too. We certainly didn't go hungry.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9QbKohuRJ5NhBOv5Fkt33lF59sLuyRCQRnIzwwaraQQIIEtTfja4FFAxWR-jE-5RyTVMLobRdZSJf79BbsJKDmVOGumBWlG1uUo3cQVI2MMeT6UregFBmJyAs_3rDzYofRf9VjP2lJx-9xIARZYDbSLtYFa6a6UQz7JmmW8_7z78CXFS38nV-gkXzg4U/s4896/P1050747.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9QbKohuRJ5NhBOv5Fkt33lF59sLuyRCQRnIzwwaraQQIIEtTfja4FFAxWR-jE-5RyTVMLobRdZSJf79BbsJKDmVOGumBWlG1uUo3cQVI2MMeT6UregFBmJyAs_3rDzYofRf9VjP2lJx-9xIARZYDbSLtYFa6a6UQz7JmmW8_7z78CXFS38nV-gkXzg4U/w640-h480/P1050747.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Owen and Robin at the BBQ</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The wind got up and shook the caravans overnight and in the early morning - those gusts were quite scary indeed. At the beginning of the year we had to list ten projects for this challenge, and a random number is chosen for each month. This is my number 2, using the design Elephant Parade as inspiration. I also wanted to use up a pile of grey and pink strips, which were cut for an earlier project some years ago and never used.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGqd4kMh8LvuWDDl6FpgfVf14SsAjz6DIpfJKbMT94hik6a3C3SAogZwUEUKYV3d-Dm_eH8zaE2idY6e6KlPKE_xDZG9frW9GeViO5uBIo85Ufop4lfpslfNEeoRj5nfUXojWpoB8nWIjV0Am_b1xGKNc0cEmp96bm8IWJG6qntRdHc9FuVziZQqucHSU/s4896/P1050499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGqd4kMh8LvuWDDl6FpgfVf14SsAjz6DIpfJKbMT94hik6a3C3SAogZwUEUKYV3d-Dm_eH8zaE2idY6e6KlPKE_xDZG9frW9GeViO5uBIo85Ufop4lfpslfNEeoRj5nfUXojWpoB8nWIjV0Am_b1xGKNc0cEmp96bm8IWJG6qntRdHc9FuVziZQqucHSU/w640-h480/P1050499.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">My starting point</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Pink and grey strips were sewn together, and the elephants traced out and appliqued. Heather was our "Hostess with the Mostest" today and warmly welcomed up into her home. After we had settled down, show and tell got under way, starting with the last two items from the Doily Challenge being shown. Late last year we were able to select a doily of our choice from Helen, and the instructions were "to make something". Helen had made a lovely bag, using a vintage pillowcase and added the embroidered detail from the doily to the front corner. Then she showcased her wonderful machine quilting to the top and back of the bag.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUMI_ULZZnxYRre4EGsrEmy5234ZaEDAxbvE4DZEa4gUm4uw8cY1-Odg2HJyqHoWslOYjIBd0OFSwP5eQYd6b_M7rGLF8bmRvKkUtr2pnfvQZX_7PBJzivgu6ewc8aVZOukOVbBNAl7MH29NqZx9YF1Q0-r0DGC-35h0Dt_xpGv7qmaKNrQFOKs5aU6dg/s4896/P1050700.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUMI_ULZZnxYRre4EGsrEmy5234ZaEDAxbvE4DZEa4gUm4uw8cY1-Odg2HJyqHoWslOYjIBd0OFSwP5eQYd6b_M7rGLF8bmRvKkUtr2pnfvQZX_7PBJzivgu6ewc8aVZOukOVbBNAl7MH29NqZx9YF1Q0-r0DGC-35h0Dt_xpGv7qmaKNrQFOKs5aU6dg/w640-h480/P1050700.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Helen's wonderful bag</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Heather showed what she had done with her doily, turning it into a pretty lace cushion. One of my goals was to hand stitch tails and eyes on to my three families of elephants. There is Mother elephant, her older calves and the two babies in each family. A couple of afternoons spent sitting quietly and the job was done.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeM_taHDMqWaHkuQlmQ4eSLdj4lD2ZrEz64tJ5iMlIiQLYcEth6I5V2-lDEBN-oXCbEE7F29wzk2_IEb8FHIkzKT1CrUupBfHCH5bQB7g6SUgk-ZspBn5l6KUIpmb-XQg-spcbewbKasD9CS0pjqyaxGZ-WviMI7G-nb1z-i1KIGew6pj9D2d_JXmCPgQ/s4896/P1050688-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeM_taHDMqWaHkuQlmQ4eSLdj4lD2ZrEz64tJ5iMlIiQLYcEth6I5V2-lDEBN-oXCbEE7F29wzk2_IEb8FHIkzKT1CrUupBfHCH5bQB7g6SUgk-ZspBn5l6KUIpmb-XQg-spcbewbKasD9CS0pjqyaxGZ-WviMI7G-nb1z-i1KIGew6pj9D2d_JXmCPgQ/w640-h480/P1050688-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Elephants tails and eyes</div><p style="text-align: justify;">Once that job was done, it shouldn't take me too long to assemble the rows. This is my number two project in the Chookshed Challenge for February and I would really like to get this top assembled by the end of the month.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Last month I had finally finished knitting and sewing up my navy blue cardigan (number 6 for January in the Chookshed Challenge) but...........I was not at all happy with the collar. Silly me, I thought I knew better than the pattern and knitted a ribbed collar instead of garter stitch. After thinking about it for a while, I decided that if I didn't like it now, I never would in the future, so there was only one thing for it. The collar was unravelled, and reknitted, according to the pattern. The colour is darker than shown, the pic was taken outside in the sunshine.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2LUQ2WMgIQxOWC7IXBuofiTIa-KbE0e1IKEU6PCTTgLZBzFGrm6BGZ0HGWFR9x6PzBsYfD009fFM9ynWtxofGc5JQPkv4c61ltVJ4AeM_rrdwdjk143_k5HKcf0x0OUN19zJSzZHk-wdfLm5IX0zHhOElslYvWlaDPfEIAaeTLiAaYVNciF7nyIi3KE/s4896/P1050696.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2LUQ2WMgIQxOWC7IXBuofiTIa-KbE0e1IKEU6PCTTgLZBzFGrm6BGZ0HGWFR9x6PzBsYfD009fFM9ynWtxofGc5JQPkv4c61ltVJ4AeM_rrdwdjk143_k5HKcf0x0OUN19zJSzZHk-wdfLm5IX0zHhOElslYvWlaDPfEIAaeTLiAaYVNciF7nyIi3KE/w300-h400/P1050696.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">THis looks better</p><p style="text-align: justify;">This cardigan has been a very long winded project indeed, and was started last year during our 10 week South Island caravan holiday. It was a nice easy design to knit while sightseeing in the car, not much thinking to do at all. But once I started on the back shoulder increases I realised that I had the incorrect number of stitches - bother. So that was unravelled and knitted again. And now the collar has been redone too. You would think at my age I would be better at following instructions!</p><p style="text-align: justify;">But it is finally completed, and I'm happy with my efforts. It will be tucked away till the winter weather arrives.</p>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13596754983215564299noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7591608932391275570.post-82813089140811635172024-02-22T20:16:00.000+13:002024-02-22T20:20:23.103+13:00A New Home for the Froggies<p style="text-align: justify;"> Baby Jack has arrived - the first grandson of Robin's sister Kaye and her husband Jan. That was certainly exciting news and we caught up with Kaye for lunch while she was staying with the new parents and baby to offer a helping hand. Luckily I had a baby quilt tucked away for a new arrival, wrapped it up and took it to our lunch date. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSkO5fY-HPXoqVXbcc3M2KJ6faJgMkIyMbF5KpJtE3mPsGLmSNLMYvKNdfvt1UmZX6HdSrnyiMXs7sfps9CQ3OfHC4Beukq6XlorJ0RdSOHX1VMPtaYxICV5reuzBTbM3sqxa_rCkNx7pVuYbv8YSVxxPzQQ2clX2i1Np5opWwnURcE_OBCF7qskz7YR4/s4896/P1050689.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSkO5fY-HPXoqVXbcc3M2KJ6faJgMkIyMbF5KpJtE3mPsGLmSNLMYvKNdfvt1UmZX6HdSrnyiMXs7sfps9CQ3OfHC4Beukq6XlorJ0RdSOHX1VMPtaYxICV5reuzBTbM3sqxa_rCkNx7pVuYbv8YSVxxPzQQ2clX2i1Np5opWwnURcE_OBCF7qskz7YR4/w640-h480/P1050689.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What's in the parcel?</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"> Robin's younger brother Gary and his wife Debbie came along for lunch too, and Kaye was sitting inside at the table waiting for us. So it was quite a nice family reunion. As always, we dithered over the menu, and checked out the cabinet food, eventually making our lunch choices. It had been some time since we had caught up with Kaye, who lives in the South Island, so there was plenty to chat about. </div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXbQm7xXV0wdZ3Q4ITkX9x722fwldm2gH2U-iQGSlgQW4k5OCklxRW_WKawsMnZIt5tw8DLLlRmPP2ya0UpAQSpTiGJ_cmHZ2DKBIEh-Q3d9mLGgTVGYiJVPN-m_ueXgTb5C93sSVxL4R2AuMGA5HJECTb_s3RoFlPsnRh5DssD68wNipwnKFGFFFkq_g/s4896/P1050691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXbQm7xXV0wdZ3Q4ITkX9x722fwldm2gH2U-iQGSlgQW4k5OCklxRW_WKawsMnZIt5tw8DLLlRmPP2ya0UpAQSpTiGJ_cmHZ2DKBIEh-Q3d9mLGgTVGYiJVPN-m_ueXgTb5C93sSVxL4R2AuMGA5HJECTb_s3RoFlPsnRh5DssD68wNipwnKFGFFFkq_g/w640-h480/P1050691.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Three siblings, Robin, Kaye and Gary</p><p>Finally it was time to head back to our respective homes, and Kaye had promised the new Mum a roast meal so she had to hurry back as well, taking the parcel with her. We had to list ten projects, UFOs or something on our wish list and each month a number is chosen at random. This month, the number chosen was number two, which in my case is a variation of Elephants on Parade. I started off with this, a pattern in a magazine, and some left over pink and grey strips I wanted to use up.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWwcMdmvQbMRp-kk2KMos-o1yXoFjUiepQBsOkbDxr-E79YDBBbkLlVowz_0eB8f-2j0tIYqTyQEMbG6vBa5-ZHnJbVNHtURPO4n2Me1cmvR8aCh8XuSyUqnlhZQYW2OcLzuh2wRCC1OSugTNbq5ITEjTAMML-2DxmqwMemlqH8ITc5Pd58ihLIlXZS14/s4896/P1050499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWwcMdmvQbMRp-kk2KMos-o1yXoFjUiepQBsOkbDxr-E79YDBBbkLlVowz_0eB8f-2j0tIYqTyQEMbG6vBa5-ZHnJbVNHtURPO4n2Me1cmvR8aCh8XuSyUqnlhZQYW2OcLzuh2wRCC1OSugTNbq5ITEjTAMML-2DxmqwMemlqH8ITc5Pd58ihLIlXZS14/w640-h480/P1050499.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The starting point</div><p style="text-align: justify;">Because I had no idea what month number two on the list would be called, I went to the quilt shop to purchase some more fabric to continue with this quilt top. Pale pink for the background, and a grey print with tiny black stars for the elephants. I had to educate Robin about St Valentine - he didn't realise that there was indeed such a person. St Valentine was martyred on 14th February in the year 269 under instructions of Emperor Claudius 11 for helping Christian couples wed.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF1goE1MxPb1Q-NFK0Skw5unZd6VHW_y4n3E69TQYROaCu2mRVXHiHcnKikkAySRwu7ieWafNZ3wZ9HWFaStib9yODZAFXtTuRQ7nCDxDi9Vc6sCaVmgpTM_geTR_OexrxdRDgQMGjytDip2hBhmcMvXkCvmboCiIjERqAEJdo2sAxirqkUNG_5LSuJho/s4896/P1050659.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF1goE1MxPb1Q-NFK0Skw5unZd6VHW_y4n3E69TQYROaCu2mRVXHiHcnKikkAySRwu7ieWafNZ3wZ9HWFaStib9yODZAFXtTuRQ7nCDxDi9Vc6sCaVmgpTM_geTR_OexrxdRDgQMGjytDip2hBhmcMvXkCvmboCiIjERqAEJdo2sAxirqkUNG_5LSuJho/w300-h400/P1050659.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">I like to bring out my bed quilt "Hearts of Love" for the months of November, our wedding month, and again in February, for Valentine's Day. The heart blocks were received some years ago when I took part in a block swap. Then I assembled the quilt using star blocks as part of the sashing. I'm sure most quilters like to rotate their quilts for various celebrations too. But I was even slower getting around to stitching up the side seam. There they sat, and sat, waiting patiently for that single inside seam on each to be sewn. At last they were completed, a nice pair of 4ply socks. I wanted to use up the remaining white and coloured sock yarn from a previous pair, so had to go and purchase the blue wool to go with it. Now I've got left over blue sock yarn - that's the way it goes.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnTeSkJ-7xLZVxinsYwqwDt0T68_tFJpDXAbcRo_CQAdCBR4xHjCg-bE2cyihrpynVv24PAFrWZVghZqezuzvKKIOzUv98F6lESy-2tMwzmIZxa-n3rej3AoNgjwd1bciDPGc4pqg6ejRT_FKuxZXj17b1-dVyFOhxfbf_B7B5kWAo4MClSJVySRjSpac/s4896/P1050637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnTeSkJ-7xLZVxinsYwqwDt0T68_tFJpDXAbcRo_CQAdCBR4xHjCg-bE2cyihrpynVv24PAFrWZVghZqezuzvKKIOzUv98F6lESy-2tMwzmIZxa-n3rej3AoNgjwd1bciDPGc4pqg6ejRT_FKuxZXj17b1-dVyFOhxfbf_B7B5kWAo4MClSJVySRjSpac/w640-h480/P1050637.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Another pair of socks</p><p style="text-align: justify;">A few days I caught up with my old school friend Merilyn, who lives in the South Island. She had flown up to Wellington with her son to attend a Memorial Service for her brother. It's certainly sad when your siblings pass away. She told me she really, really wanted to see me so of course we drove down and had a lovely catch up with her and her son before the family plans took place. We chose a local cafe for coffee and scones and sat and chatted away. It didn't quite get completed in January, but here it is done now. In fact, the binding was stitched down today. This cot quilt was made with green and lemon 5in squares I received from my elderly neighbour Dorothy's stash which was donated to me when she went into a rest home. The green border fabric came from Dorothy as well. This truly is the "gift which keeps on giving" as I still have many more charm squares left, including those I've used in last year's Happy Blocks, and I'm dipping into them again this year too.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYXD4kbF1IlXCp49EHXjZlwHq_iE7JrV70E6R7A9GaZr-DAVq_9tbCE3PMiT557vGpmNmyMh6RrkkdkQTQpT2Wnb_YZTDz29juleja34QCJUIMPGKa5WtjLpC43rsK8Dei_JE8eVWlcsdj5He7gGZeiZ3SzPJcdwKWoxAeUMWUv0pF1xiJ0qfr2WR3GOc/s4896/P1050654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYXD4kbF1IlXCp49EHXjZlwHq_iE7JrV70E6R7A9GaZr-DAVq_9tbCE3PMiT557vGpmNmyMh6RrkkdkQTQpT2Wnb_YZTDz29juleja34QCJUIMPGKa5WtjLpC43rsK8Dei_JE8eVWlcsdj5He7gGZeiZ3SzPJcdwKWoxAeUMWUv0pF1xiJ0qfr2WR3GOc/w640-h480/P1050654.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Cot quilt for donation</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As a change from my more usual Serpentine stitch quilting lines, I decided to do some "dot to dot" quilting lines inside each square. I always seem to have a pair of socks on the go, and these are my current triple knit (12 ply) pair. Made with white/cream home spun wool, a gift from my friend Merilyn, with added speckled yarn, they are coming along nicely. Once past the heels, I'm now on the homeward stretch.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieSaxZ0GRYXFs865_S5CcO8JWwfs_leyVDFrjTkhLZNjlA4Yp-8IxqKJRZUlWdkUa_X0Q6CjdzFchZAatU2J-Tl1_YLgGbLhLkB4c8uSJD7lzMiHdfJPgTX66r_OJdl_Uj8YjDWJWc_IdjzT2wxoRNIQZN6CCSv3JOV_iB558AagnBNXrtnIQHwfr1GTY/s4896/P1050575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieSaxZ0GRYXFs865_S5CcO8JWwfs_leyVDFrjTkhLZNjlA4Yp-8IxqKJRZUlWdkUa_X0Q6CjdzFchZAatU2J-Tl1_YLgGbLhLkB4c8uSJD7lzMiHdfJPgTX66r_OJdl_Uj8YjDWJWc_IdjzT2wxoRNIQZN6CCSv3JOV_iB558AagnBNXrtnIQHwfr1GTY/w640-h480/P1050575.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Nice and cozy for winter</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The final of four Kiwi Christmas stitcheries has just been completed. I was the hoste4ss and welcomed everyone to our home. Gemma had a little look around then quietly did her own thing, away from the hustle and bustle. There was plenty of chatter as we all caught up with each other's news, and such a lot of show and tell. Several of our ladies had recently had entries in the A & P Show Home Crafts category, and come away with awards. Carol won a prize with her knitted doll, and Helen won awards for several of her entries.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgGKt_YzNEWsttjiCei1Is2NgaqLZbiQ7p-tEjTPMJJwWnbEhuWPDz59-5pTYnuyycc4IxlvuD2mDNRpZHXlHJwM-cdVQ8hti02stGjOx7a9nmMFizpZLuQVucQDY_1QBU4ZGENY0hISBlNNl8ifYdzAaigA_k_-ZaSB0H4CBwSCI9NJ1UFBVYQ4kPQQ/s4896/P1050577.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgGKt_YzNEWsttjiCei1Is2NgaqLZbiQ7p-tEjTPMJJwWnbEhuWPDz59-5pTYnuyycc4IxlvuD2mDNRpZHXlHJwM-cdVQ8hti02stGjOx7a9nmMFizpZLuQVucQDY_1QBU4ZGENY0hISBlNNl8ifYdzAaigA_k_-ZaSB0H4CBwSCI9NJ1UFBVYQ4kPQQ/w300-h400/P1050577.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgip79KXGNxw2EA2N7uBuCJkUikuGOPUVpMX7-z0DytU9QqT7V9JlZDcwrUCybmHXZ-BRzTRRzXqREWfbWIyApYwNpBmT9nQFLBgIcZKxnUpS40J17k899AO1Bsp9RhNCVIHTDljgH7aw3gKxDQAgtbrvYaDg7Qk8Bn5h4mKAXh4kXJeXDF631GB5-ljU/s4896/P1050580.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgip79KXGNxw2EA2N7uBuCJkUikuGOPUVpMX7-z0DytU9QqT7V9JlZDcwrUCybmHXZ-BRzTRRzXqREWfbWIyApYwNpBmT9nQFLBgIcZKxnUpS40J17k899AO1Bsp9RhNCVIHTDljgH7aw3gKxDQAgtbrvYaDg7Qk8Bn5h4mKAXh4kXJeXDF631GB5-ljU/w640-h480/P1050580.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Hand knitting by Carol and Helen</p><p style="text-align: justify;">As well as all the excitement of the fair, we brought along our Sew Wot Challenge items. Taking part in the Chookshed Challenge was the push I needed to get this completed - this was my number six on my list of ten for this challenge. All in all, my navy blue cardigan has taken me just over a year to complete, not bad going for me. It was started when I wanted a knitting project to take down to the South Island early last year when we were embarking on a 10 week caravan trip.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Most of my knitting took place while we were driving around, going from camp to camp, or out sightseeing. The South Island of New Zealand has magnificent scenery, mountains and plains, lakes and rivers, and stunning coastline too. I had worked away slowly on this when we returned back from our trip and was was up the knitting the collar and sewing the seams when I joined the Chookshed Challenge. And now, it's done - sucess! Although I did need a quick trip out to buy some buttons.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq4ahkHHuqN8zejBQzHrcNH-v8wzIV5uIFxxUcuL6zl-avsOVOFnO-fJ7PbT0Ps6DwQAvoKtge1-SWp20KbSCmNQsPEvFDh_ryv7zclzBLzCJEeC2_tJKK-QGvuhDkVy-QcLZo_18RpIUITQWJHQVg0aLJaAWBScQcIbshRmb48kd30QJYbJT5nGmQy-8/s4896/P1050567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq4ahkHHuqN8zejBQzHrcNH-v8wzIV5uIFxxUcuL6zl-avsOVOFnO-fJ7PbT0Ps6DwQAvoKtge1-SWp20KbSCmNQsPEvFDh_ryv7zclzBLzCJEeC2_tJKK-QGvuhDkVy-QcLZo_18RpIUITQWJHQVg0aLJaAWBScQcIbshRmb48kd30QJYbJT5nGmQy-8/w480-h640/P1050567.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>It's still Summer here in my part of paradise, but I'll be all set when the winter arrives with my new cardigan, knitted in 100% New Zealand wool.</div><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p>Jennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13596754983215564299noreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7591608932391275570.post-13097331487328501192024-01-27T16:03:00.000+13:002024-01-27T16:03:44.674+13:00Not another new RSC Project, surely?<p style="text-align: justify;">The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for January is green, and I thought I had already completed my RSC stitching this month. But another project sneaked in. Hiding in plain sight was a bag of 2.5in squares, and I had thinking of doing a project I had seen in blogland, but that didn't happen. To be quite honest, I don't really like working with little squares, and was considering donating the bag to the Op Shop.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Perhaps I'll do something with them after all, I thought. So I rummaged through the bag, pulled out all the soft green squares I could find, and stitched up some green hollow nines. I had admired this block on RSC last year, so thought, why not do some myself, and use up some of the never ending squares.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1aQNSxJVKvj8aCFxPzvm70iAMcwoFxIS0OlmON8r80TUOTdhUzfm9CFmnmR_Sh-Z972t6_bifoBqMpPgZag7eGTCtNW_qaG0XJiZiq5YIxwURzDC0L_ncokFYl8IxJVLBF1Ux4zywCydeZeLJvI5isuL-pYumhpFfdGdtnC-BAU8YcY_d9NUYJdwaXZM/s4896/P1050512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1aQNSxJVKvj8aCFxPzvm70iAMcwoFxIS0OlmON8r80TUOTdhUzfm9CFmnmR_Sh-Z972t6_bifoBqMpPgZag7eGTCtNW_qaG0XJiZiq5YIxwURzDC0L_ncokFYl8IxJVLBF1Ux4zywCydeZeLJvI5isuL-pYumhpFfdGdtnC-BAU8YcY_d9NUYJdwaXZM/w640-h480/P1050512.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">I'm jumping on the Hollow Nines bandwagon</p><p style="text-align: justify;">As it is green month, it seemed a good opportunity to work on a green UFO which was hanging around. There were a couple to choose from and I selected a green and lemon hued cot quilt top I had made from 5 inch squares. It wont take me too long to machine quilt this, I imagined. Well, as it happens, I'm still working on it, so it wont be finished this week. But I'm getting there, hope to finish it shortly. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCki8QwC_YP97vg1g3Mkmco6greVJfOURgCGRcaJnw8aAlitS7P5iteIw2J81v0mZ3hoQE3H4IvpHz-wvpjWfhLp1Ker2uvRQfIspfWf-2FqmjiOpkRlty7IZnEQw7u0CAPucN4zhwSyn3aqGZc7jkjLgIpSg11vo5DAWcfvSQ-u0jKFyTSgdqtGGhf88/s4896/P1050506.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4896" data-original-width="3672" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCki8QwC_YP97vg1g3Mkmco6greVJfOURgCGRcaJnw8aAlitS7P5iteIw2J81v0mZ3hoQE3H4IvpHz-wvpjWfhLp1Ker2uvRQfIspfWf-2FqmjiOpkRlty7IZnEQw7u0CAPucN4zhwSyn3aqGZc7jkjLgIpSg11vo5DAWcfvSQ-u0jKFyTSgdqtGGhf88/w300-h400/P1050506.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg68pITOLELKhr_yocVdE-l3eOJ5R_xTUvbQPlK_9qOAIRZEsup-47DtvtMtNtXFYSvlcEswjfLL0rEBvuC0Niz44tpKoUJzXRA02_M5Ek7rTD3LtMDyIDdYRyL13f4yoIn2BlsIA7oSmGeUBWKidwaOtIpKj5P2B5grgn8-fcWrQpcJVJw5VIDWAfxZX0/s4896/P1050569.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg68pITOLELKhr_yocVdE-l3eOJ5R_xTUvbQPlK_9qOAIRZEsup-47DtvtMtNtXFYSvlcEswjfLL0rEBvuC0Niz44tpKoUJzXRA02_M5Ek7rTD3LtMDyIDdYRyL13f4yoIn2BlsIA7oSmGeUBWKidwaOtIpKj5P2B5grgn8-fcWrQpcJVJw5VIDWAfxZX0/w640-h480/P1050569.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Working on the green cot quilt</p><p style="text-align: justify;">As well as time spent at the sewing machine, we went out to check on a newly opened cafe this week. Robin and I are part of a friendship group which meets monthly for lunch, and my turn to organise a day out is coming up soon. I had actually been there for coffee just prior to Christmas, but not for a meal. So we drove to Foxton to have morning tea and check out the lunch menu. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">The lunch menu looked fine, with plenty of cabinet food available too, for those who would prefer something lighter. I was delighted to find Ginger Gems in the cabinet, who can remember these? One of my favourites, but seldom seen these days. They are the sort of thing made by grannies using heavy gem irons a generation or two ago. Mine was delicious, as was the coffee. So yes, we will bring our friends here for my lunch outing shortly.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs3QVw3lTwVx6zAbRFX-0iBvar9iOf7oxniKkgyYK8J0IxdpiyUV0mODMmncokHgqRwEAc1jJAYVxFdrLWJl20OrGQRKwZas4H-iCZizQW1tdU4Ifii3v7JlfztzbklKfMftZw5wqzD_SUUoGldwdQiivSl1KUetx87aPHfj2PPPfP0Mol5w0wn0WxP9s/s4896/P1050572.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs3QVw3lTwVx6zAbRFX-0iBvar9iOf7oxniKkgyYK8J0IxdpiyUV0mODMmncokHgqRwEAc1jJAYVxFdrLWJl20OrGQRKwZas4H-iCZizQW1tdU4Ifii3v7JlfztzbklKfMftZw5wqzD_SUUoGldwdQiivSl1KUetx87aPHfj2PPPfP0Mol5w0wn0WxP9s/w640-h480/P1050572.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdOr4vM3_vRGRaXnbgW79AZGfFLmof4u4M_lrkvHHdpzhHQp-DHGdIa53Xh1wt6FXbp5k0aUdnXvRom2IeiRuZ3mzMLLtkzCnFFqLpnc9vef8q03fgOuoDBtLhQ6lpqzwRCsUqzuDT5363v3Vqaz2lqua0c2r8JEeJRFF1_vb56XW-TP4drpyhYoSMNnw/s4896/P1050571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdOr4vM3_vRGRaXnbgW79AZGfFLmof4u4M_lrkvHHdpzhHQp-DHGdIa53Xh1wt6FXbp5k0aUdnXvRom2IeiRuZ3mzMLLtkzCnFFqLpnc9vef8q03fgOuoDBtLhQ6lpqzwRCsUqzuDT5363v3Vqaz2lqua0c2r8JEeJRFF1_vb56XW-TP4drpyhYoSMNnw/w640-h480/P1050571.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Morning Tea at Foxton</p><p style="text-align: justify;">So that's what I have been doing this week. What a pretty, peaceful place this was. We decided to camp off power so left the crowded motor camp behind and parked up around the lake on a large grassy area. There were several caravans and campervans parked here, but plenty of room between is all.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHhaWjz3qftRRTtPt09AEymQi4yqL75ChZ0iywTZso8DIEDxwuC-sOlmvlQp9I53j5xbj15fUCiUdD654qb4BF4VxXD_274vJdOU7gYuXJZHGu2hnXE6PITfa8pk0zQ3eaNWchxVjhyphenhypheng3hEBRJ2IRZZSI-uYZ0iEkSNR6UayJmZ9DPIUN2Q_TaUeLPiPg/s4896/P1050513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHhaWjz3qftRRTtPt09AEymQi4yqL75ChZ0iywTZso8DIEDxwuC-sOlmvlQp9I53j5xbj15fUCiUdD654qb4BF4VxXD_274vJdOU7gYuXJZHGu2hnXE6PITfa8pk0zQ3eaNWchxVjhyphenhypheng3hEBRJ2IRZZSI-uYZ0iEkSNR6UayJmZ9DPIUN2Q_TaUeLPiPg/w640-h480/P1050513.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Our lakeside camping spot</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px;">The lake must be very healthy as we noticed plenty of bird life, and the frogs serenaded us in the evening. It was many years since we had driven this road, so long ago that in those days it was a gravel road, although it is now sealed. Narrow and windy, it took us through tiny settlements with interesting names, rather like those associated with the Grand Overseas Tours taken by young men of the aristocracy in earlier years. These interesting little places have now reverted to their Maori names. Athens, now known as Atane, Corinth, now Koriniti, London, now Ranana, and Jerusalem, now Hiruharama. We stopped at a lookout point along the way for a lovely view down the river.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfqXl4KI_34MOe1jkJTWXbay0GnALAU-2lEC-bWABakW8zND3eGq1-3AUpeMgky-4UOvcP-uuR1-FnJ8dP5QclNCSxtqcsFpF_aQRXRO5KP3hhPRoly0viRlPOrEEUa-1FvFOY6DXeFQHHhZd6jZ-DDgdlq9WNbAx1gwWf4K6OSlJue6VUUmF8bEveF_g/s4896/P1050541.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfqXl4KI_34MOe1jkJTWXbay0GnALAU-2lEC-bWABakW8zND3eGq1-3AUpeMgky-4UOvcP-uuR1-FnJ8dP5QclNCSxtqcsFpF_aQRXRO5KP3hhPRoly0viRlPOrEEUa-1FvFOY6DXeFQHHhZd6jZ-DDgdlq9WNbAx1gwWf4K6OSlJue6VUUmF8bEveF_g/w640-h480/P1050541.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px;">Looking down at the Whanganui River</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px;">One of the places we were keen to revisit was the Kawana Mill, in fact, we wondered if in fact it was still there, after all these years. It seemed simple enough - pick ten challenges and number them 1 - 10. That was sobering, I had so many bags of UFOs and items I wanted to start that taking my my ten selected things out of the mix made barely a dent! So.... what did I choose?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">1: Unicorn Cushions. I have made a Unicorn quilt recently using these small panels, which will probably be donated, if I can bare to part with it. I've got a backlog of RSC projects still to be completed from the last year or two, so didn't want to commit to too many projects this year. So I've decided to work on three easy blocks sets. Tucked away I found a set of girly four patch blocks I had stitched previously, plus some colourful pirate squares for a boys I had cut out all ready to go. These would both be bordered, I decided, and the colour this month is green.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsNJRHXoLvyajo3nRBMRPtPtQmN8mgamlVzsSl4siZBUWRtgeYsg4JmL-BhElRp78qH6trYPr-YQeDoPNvIkEDRSRHNGLgpd_WKAMdouyB1JOLJ9Y2LT5F9h-Z2vo-Jc2Mew_kQeZWAUxtzXnYFYN_cSQO2fHEjhi0y9Sq42c5Mq81Ehp6MjpnFDk1pgE/s4896/P1050505.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsNJRHXoLvyajo3nRBMRPtPtQmN8mgamlVzsSl4siZBUWRtgeYsg4JmL-BhElRp78qH6trYPr-YQeDoPNvIkEDRSRHNGLgpd_WKAMdouyB1JOLJ9Y2LT5F9h-Z2vo-Jc2Mew_kQeZWAUxtzXnYFYN_cSQO2fHEjhi0y9Sq42c5Mq81Ehp6MjpnFDk1pgE/w640-h480/P1050505.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Four patch and pirates</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUfms4w04h6PnlXheoMzYgKeLRH_xcqsiV5bVdrC1bYf0-g-qvQGSkyhPBYlArv_TTrZ-nGGP58WG4M5jo0AuLrl-omRc39FmFCDCiUvamH227vX4wobVnF8Ebp9C7hQw1kfYUCowSVqYY5GniFXHy_ibpkvfgO1oYHMYGD0nQVAHY_vI8aXCFN4DA6tw/s4896/P1050509.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUfms4w04h6PnlXheoMzYgKeLRH_xcqsiV5bVdrC1bYf0-g-qvQGSkyhPBYlArv_TTrZ-nGGP58WG4M5jo0AuLrl-omRc39FmFCDCiUvamH227vX4wobVnF8Ebp9C7hQw1kfYUCowSVqYY5GniFXHy_ibpkvfgO1oYHMYGD0nQVAHY_vI8aXCFN4DA6tw/w640-h480/P1050509.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Four patch blocks bordered in green</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLU-3UZSCaP7BXfu0RVO5WR_qPSpVylFYQbhLlrsn9D5KykV_FW2ae7XfChmf1MoehyphenhyphennmUHv1g7ngpXuo1EMjLHM3jGNcdqvMAOT0uCW3k9AHCNrrGPgapKGwkUvyUbU-2jIvDT7A-MrFz56OMUuOshBPT3sIGcnIP57XZkmVzYkFb819Q_kGTKgHuMwU/s4896/P1050508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3672" data-original-width="4896" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLU-3UZSCaP7BXfu0RVO5WR_qPSpVylFYQbhLlrsn9D5KykV_FW2ae7XfChmf1MoehyphenhyphennmUHv1g7ngpXuo1EMjLHM3jGNcdqvMAOT0uCW3k9AHCNrrGPgapKGwkUvyUbU-2jIvDT7A-MrFz56OMUuOshBPT3sIGcnIP57XZkmVzYkFb819Q_kGTKgHuMwU/w640-h480/P1050508.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Pirates, bordered in green</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">As I've still got plenty of 5 inch novelty squares tucked away, I'm also making more Happy Blocks, this one using some of the many girly squares I have. So how did I do? I finished six children’s quilts, all for donation. Let’s have a look, shall we. First up was the second Flag quilt I made, nice easy blocks using up bits and pieces. Each block in the green froggy quilt were made the same cute fabric, but framed in different colours, and finished with a lime green border. I’m keeping this one for a while, as there is a new arrival coming soon in the extended family..</p> <p><a href="https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1DM3XZgEbCxHHqvOvmy72oy_cib9KUSn4"><img width="304" height="404" title="P1020362" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="P1020362" src="https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1xyC3GfW4cja-540Zgac4aoU2raez02Wv" border="0"></a><a href="https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1ho1kmCoFiTaOngDyRKdgG2kYGcgq_6dm"><img width="304" height="404" title="P1020559" align="right" style="float: right; display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="P1020559" src="https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1imVBv71C2xpUTufSB8sPBIrCxM8z-VtG" border="0"></a></p> <p align="center">Flag quilt and Froggy quilt</p> <p align="justify">I finished the red, cream and blue Transportation quilt, using fabric donated to me from my elderly neighbour Dorothy’s stash, after she moved into a Rest Home.
