It’s the Little Things

Sometimes it’s the little things which make us happy.  I’m so happy to live in an area which excels in growing things.  It is just a short drive to collect some lovely fresh summer strawberries.  We enjoy strawberries for dessert, and even on our breakfast cereal some mornings.  Mind you, the rather wet and cold weather lately has not been kind to the growers in the region.

We have a favourite market garden not too far away where we buy our produce from their gardens.  It’s always nice to see the lovely fresh greens growing, knowing that they are harvested and in the shop in no time at all.

And we love to buy our free range eggs from another local business, The Big Egg.  We occasionally find double yolkers, so that is always exciting.  Sometimes the chooks are out close by fossicking around in the ground and plants so I get to go and say hello to them.

Our own tiny garden was a bit late getting planted this season.  But the passion fruit vine is fruiting well, so that makes me very happy.  The leaves have just about all disappeared, and we think it has something to do with the unseasonably cold weather and winds.  Just hope those luscious fruits start to ripen up soon, they turn from green to purple when ripe.

And I am doubly happy and relieved that my Poinsettia plant, a gift from my daughter,  didn't turn it’s toes up and die while we were away on holiday.  I watered it well before we left, and came home to find out that not only is it still alive, there are even baby new green leaves appearing.

I’m very happy for my sewing time, and I know that with all my UFOs I will never run out of projects to do!  We’re happy for our health, for getting away on so many caravan trips, and living in such a wonderful country.

Still stitching away.

Little things in our lives they may be, but we certainly appreciate them.  What makes you happy?

What you say is so true. We just have to appreciate them and not take them for granted.

Fresh strawberries. Delish! Nothing better than fresh organic produce. Lots of fruit on your vine....love passionfruit too. Your quilt looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing x

I love your Christmas stars quilt and I've been so impressed with your ample use of pins, Jenny that I now copy you. And my quilt sandwiches have been much more successful as a result.
I think living in such a wonderful country with an abundance of good food is a big thing and I too am thankful for our peaceful(albeit boring compared to others) life here in Canada.
