Little Letters–Finished!!

At long last, a finish.  After beavering away at one UFO after another, it’s such a good feeling to finally have a finish, I can tell you!  So here is my version of Little Letters.  This project was designed by the Temecula  Quilt Company and offered as a free weekly Quilt-Along.  I was a little late starting, but soon caught up, and had fun making all these little letters every week.

My Little Letters quilt

The binding is machine stitched on , folded to the back, and all pinned down in place and I plan to hand stitch this tonight in front of the TV.  I know that some quilters use those special binding clips instead of pinning.  Perhaps I should invest in some of those?  Then I wouldn’t be stabbing myself on the pins  the way I often do.  I’m always a little behind any sort of new technology and ideas - would you recommend me changing to the binding clips?  Any thoughts welcome.

Then all I need to do is add a hanging sleeve and a label.  Don’t tell my (grown-up) grand-daughters, but I’ve really made this little quilt to put away in my Grand-mother box for when the next generation comes along.  I can just see it being used as a play mat with a lovely chubby chortling baby having a little tummy time.  In the meantime, I’ll keep it here, perhaps hang it is my sewing room occasionally and enjoy colours.

Not sure what you mean by binding clips as there are various versions these days. I have some Clover Clips I use now, but I used to use the ones that look like metal hair clips. Nice and cheap at a discount store. :-)

Well done on a finish. It is a good feeling. What are you going to do if your dice rolls to number four from now on? Throw it again, or will you introduce another project into the mix? As far as binding clips, I have some metal hair clip type ones I've had for ages and just a few clover ones, ironically, they came from Katie Ina Christmas swap. They certainly hold things nice and firm. However, I don't use any when sewing down a binding, just a couple of pins in the corners when doing the mitres. It seems to work for me. Good luck with yours tonight.

Thanks ladies for your comments. And Janice - that is a good question about number 4. I will be adding a new project to my list, and I'm giving that some thought. One of my really old ones, I think.

Nice finish. Better than pins and better than clips, I use fusible thread. Check it out on my blog

Easy peasy, I'd never go back to pins.

Bright and beautiful, one down, 5 to go??? Clips, I see some of my Canadian and US friends use the Wonder Clips, shorter than the silver hair type, and they look really good. Wet here, bit cool, fire is lit.

I hope you got your quilting done last night, and are not trying to do it while watching the AB's play. I know I would definitely be stabbing myself at the moment. So, its a safe pastime of blog reading for me while waiting to see if Aaron Cruden is ok. Have a great week and Hi from PN.

Hello Jenny,

Oh so lovely and bright. Haven't used the clips, I have plenty of pins at hand.

Enjoy the weekend.

Happy days.

Oh my! I do love these little letters quilt, and yours is so fun and colorful! You are right, perfect tummy time mat! That border is fantastic. So much movement. Is it pieced? I have some of the binding clips. I love them. I got the knock off Joann ones that are like the clover ones. They clip, like a spring loaded clothespin. They weren't cheap, but they were cheaper than the "real" ones, so they seemed like a bargain. Funny how that works. Anyway, they became a necessity after a binding pin came loose as I was binding on the couch one night, and ended up in hubby's posterior...hahaha have. Have a fabulous Saturday!

Congratulations, Jenny! Rolling the dice is working for you! What a beautiful, colorful, cheerful quilt. One less UFO now. I do use the fancy clips and I like not getting stabbed. As I unclip each one from the binding, I clip it onto my sleeve until I need it again. I used to just hold the binding down with my fingers, but that created more tension in my hands, although it did work.
