A Box full of Goodies

With Robin’s Mum now living in a Rest Home, there is lots to do to get her home prepared for sale.  The three brothers and their spouses spent Sunday decluttering the house before the real estate agent brought the photographer around.  I decided to tackle the pantry – and what a job that was.  All the tinned food had been taken away, but there was still an awful lot that needed disposing of.  Toss, toss, toss, into rubbish bags went opened packets of this and that.  I poured opened bottles of sauces down the sink, and then all those rather questionable items were also chucked out.  With the pantry finally cleared, I got a bucket of hot soapy water and using a fair bit of elbow grease it was sparkling clean again.

The others were working in various parts of the house, and Robin was having fun outside with his water blaster, giving the deck and the paths a good clean.  SIL Michelle was clearing out the wardrobes and brought me out a cardboard box filled with all sorts of sewing goodies.  There was a jar of buttons, lace, cord, needles, even a bodkin, tape and bias binding.   Best of all were all the reels of sewing cottons, I’ll be able to make good use of them.  It will be fun having a good look and see just what is inside this treasure trove.

With the floors cleaned, and all the kitchen surfaces clear, the furniture dusted and the bathroom cleaned, our job was finally done and we all headed home.  The real clean up will be when the house is finally sold, the kitchen cupboards packed up  and all the furniture must be removed.  One day at a time, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.  There are several boxes of donations to donate to the Hospice Shop  - they will be pleased to see me when I call in to drop them off.

I just love 'finding' a box like that. I inherited a similar box from my mother-in-law and what a treasure trove it turned out to be. I still use some of the items years later.
